My name is George Kariuki I Hugo, I was born in the year 1981 in the area called Kamiruri in Bahati area near the Muthaiti Primary School. I went to Our Lady of Mercy primary school. After completing my primary education, my father set up a small business of selling bicycles spares for me. Then I went to Nairobi where I was employed by firm called Solai Paints. Then I started the work of construction (building). Then in year 2008 I got married. I started another business of small shop (kiosk). I have a son.
I hail from a place called Kamiruri in Bahati. As you travel from Nakuru along Nakuru/Nyahururu road you reach a center called Mali Kumi, continue along that road and you will reach Solai before the police station. After passing Muthaiti Primary School, you branch to your right then walk for about 600m from the main road you ask for Waimuru’s house plot no. 988. The area is a very good and very productive when it comes to farming. So those who do farming business do very good business because of the favorable climate. it is because of the favorable climate and condition that we decided to venture into farming business and we have seen it working. We are hoping to continue with the business and expand it.
I do mixed farming where I grow different types of crops like maize, beans, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, vegetables etc.. I sell the produce to the business men around the area and to others who come from long distances. I have one dairy cow which produces milk, about 10 liters per day. I sell the milk to the people around. The cost of milk per liter is 35 so for the 10 liters is about 300 per day and 9000 a month this is because it is the same milk we use for consumption in our home. The total cost of milk per year is about 100000. The total income from farming is about 500000 so the total annual income is about 150000 per year. I use the amount to continue the business and for my family upkeep. My son is still young and I am laying the foundation so I always make sure I save some money for his education and make sure I raise him right. Now he will be joining Primary School next year and we have made sure that everything required is ready like school uniform and school fees. My loving wife and I are working together to make this business successful and make sure that we have what our son need.
I would like to upgrade my dairy farming product now. I have been using different feeds and now I would like to introduce my cow to the best feed available which will cost more money and time for making a syringe and also buying dried feed like hay and other supplement. This in return will help me produce more milk and will enable me to pay the loan back and also have profit to continue with the business
