As the first male born of four children i started school while i
was with my parents. Then in 1990, when i got to primary
five, my father died ,as a result of that we couldn't pay our bills so us(by then three siblings) including
my mother to our hometown
to stay there. I managed to complete JHS in 1998 upon the
hardships i went through of helping people on their farms for
money. My intention was to stop schooling and enter into
farming by then, but with the little help from my mother i was
able to complete in 2003. Since my result could help me
further my education, i continued at the University for
Development Studies in September 2006. Upon entry, it was
only in the first year i could pay my fees in full. For
subsequent years i remained number one on the debtors' list
till completion when i gathered money from my National
Service allowance to pay before taking my certificate.
Since my intentions have been to enter into large scale
farming i have secured over twenty acreas of land to plant
Cocoa to be shared equally with my family which is termed
in our local parlance here as ''yo ma yenc3'' I was motivated by the
fact that cocoa has become the best cash crop in Africa
in Ghana, providing income for people who go into it.
Moreover, i don't want to always remain a dependent, rather
self-sufficient individual capable of helping other people such
as Zidisha is doing a great job.
Since it is a cash crop and needs time to mature i have not
started gaining anything in the form of revenue from the
cocoa yet. Not this withstanding, i do plant yam, cassava as
well as maize and some vegetables which i do sell to hire labour. I do spend an
estimated amount of over four thousand Ghana cedis
(GHC5,000.00) per annum on the farm. This amount is
distributed in buying weedicides, cocoa seeds for planting,
cost of hiring labour and other farm tools.
In addition to the cocoa , i do plant cassava maize and yam,
and proceeds from there go to help my other family members in their education and pay mothers bills .Finally, i intend using part of my
salary be repaying the loan since i am a teacher.
With the additional capital loan, I can buy quality new cocoa seeds
that are expected to increase production and
productivity, and buy good fertilizer for good productivity, the existing cocoa seeds quality seeds less support so
that productivity can not be increased. I would not use the
results of the new cocoa seeds have to pay my debt to Zidisha as a
result of money from these seeds take a long time from
planting to make money, BUT, I will use the infusion of money
that"s available now to pay the debt, and invest some of the money as well. which is
money I can from the plant that has been running for this, and
I am sure all will be able to pay my debt obligations to
Zidisha, thank you.
