About Me

My names are Jane Akoth, and I am 42 years old. I am single and a bit disabled. My home town is Kisumu, but for a period of 10 years now I have been residing in Eldoret Town. I have an O-Level certificate which I did sixteen years ago.

Due to disability I have never been married, but my disability is not inability. I have two children left to me by my late sister, but by grace of God I have managed to take them to school. The older one has already done O-levels, while the younger is still in primary school. Since I came to Eldoret, I have been doing business to support them.

My Business

The type of business which I am doing currently is buying and selling of charcoal and firewood on retail. The demand for the products is very high. The people who distribute to me normally do delivery at my door and then I pay them. My customers also usually come at my door post.

The demand for my products is normally very high during cold weather. Since the living standard of most of the people here is low, they can't afford to cook with electricity or gas. Thus, on a daily basis I normally make sales. However, due to lack of enough finances, having enough stock is a challenge.

My monthly cost of running the business is US Dollars $260, while the average gross profit before the expenses is usually approximately US Dollars $395. The following is how I normally use profits from the business:
- 30% School fees
- 50% Upkeep, i.e. food and rent
- 5% Savings
- 15% Supporting my aged mother

Loan Proposal

Given funding, I will use my loan to increase stock of charcoal by 410 bags, each at $37.30 US dollars. I also will be in a position to stock enough and even sell at high profits, which will enable me pay back the loan without any difficulty.
