About Me

My name is Donphan Ochieng, I was born in 1987, in a small town known as Kendu- bay which is found by the Lake side region of lake Victoria in Kenya. I am the first born in a family of three siblings.
Life has not been easy for me because when I was around six years old, my parents separated, my father disowned us which was a drastic setback to my family, my mother took us with her to our grandmother, she left us there and went to the city to look for greener pasture, all in all, we managed to go to school, my grandmother had no job or money and so I had to help her with farm work and going to school too at the same time, as that was not enough I embarked on charcoal burning to support her. At around 12 yrs I lost my mother and that was my turning point, I had to do something constructive with my life, I had passion for education. But the situation of life forced me to do some small casual jobs such as helping people with their farm work, burning charcoal and farming to sustain my education. At that time education in Kenya was not free and I also got some support from relatives.
By the time I joined High school, I was also supplying water to small businesses in our market place and homes during weekends and holidays, and going to school on weekdays. This helped me a lot because in the village where I live, their is scarcity of water, so I made slightly enough money that helped me to sustain my family and my school fees.
I managed to complete my high school level of education with great marks but due to luck of collage fee I did not go for further education.
From water supply I joined bodaboda riding which is so common in Kenyan roads, from where I saved and started the shop am running now. I am from the Lake side part of Kenya where is largely populated by the Luo community. Most Luos prefer fishing to business so I seized the opportunity, luos are nilotes who are said to have migrated from Sudan and mostly depend on fishing and fish as their staple food/main source of income.
I have one daughter who is now five years old and has a dream of being a singer.
During my free time i love listening to music and my unique hobby is being a disk joker currently practicing it at a residential club, (Club-Hague)

My Business

I run a shop where I live in Kendu- bay. The shop contains house hold goods which are highly consumed by people on their day to day life such as food staff, cooking oil, maize flour, bread, soft drinks, salt, sugar, milk etc.
This products are important because people use them on their day to day life, they are basic needs.
I chose this business because I saw business gap, the town which I live is a small town and not a lot of people are doing this business.
My typical cost ranges from $ 1 - $ 500 .
The profit I earn from the business will helps me with paying school fee for my other siblings and also to sustain my family needs as well as paying taxes such as rent and electricity.

Loan Proposal

Hi my lenders I would like to add more processed food stuff to my shop so as to take care of the raising demand on such commodities. Having this amount, I will do more maize flour for 40USD, packed milk for 15USD, wheat flour for 17USD and packed rice for 13USD.
With this and going by the current demand I am hoping to see my profit grow by at least 3% that is in the next two to three months
