About Me

I am a 26 year old Kenyan with a passion for the agriculture industry as my nation’s economic pillar is farming. I was born and raised in Mogotio,Baringo county;the only county with a lake full of hot springs and geysers-The amazing lake Bogoria.
Mogotio is a semi arid region which can get extremely harsh on livestock and plants. I want to make a difference and show the people of that region that actually one can make a living in the same conditions.
My mother worked in the sisal plantations of Mogotio so that we could attend school. Cutting sisal for a small amount.living with just over one dollar per day made things hard for us and at the same time served as motivation. Being a single mother wasn’t easy for my mother and I tried much as the first born to help her in any way I could.
The sisal plantations and the hot climate provide conditions for a habitat to many species of snakes and scorpions. The much dreaded cobra is one of them and is a nuisance to inhabitants of the vast dry land. The government of Kenya set up a snake park in Baringo and a tortoise park in Mogotio to try and make the county more attractive to tourists with the existence of two lakes and a beautiful geographical scene already.
Hunting wild animals like crater kudus and antelopes was a way to supplement our diet and we used to hunt communally but the Kenya wildlife service banned the practice so it is now illegal. Every Sunday we could take our bows and arrows and head for the hills from morning upto evening where we could gather our kill and divide equally.
People in Mogotio are pre dominantly pastoralists rearing sheep, goats, cows and even camels.people travel from far to come and taste the roasted Mogotio goat describing it as tasty and nutritious. Local tourists also visit lake Bogoria for its precious water known to cure several diseases especially skin diseases.
I love my county of birth and I want to make a difference to eradicate the annual drought and famine disasters. Having food security will provide a good environment for our people to contribute o the economy thus reducing the rate of poverty evident in that region

My Business

MY BUSINESS
I have a passion for the agriculture industry and I feel starting with poultry will give me a foundation for my business. I have studied the poultry business and visited various farms where they have excelled.i started a poultry farm but not for commercial purpose now i want to improve. It is also manageable for me because of my capital limit and time. I am currently enrolled for a masters degree programme at Kenya Methodist university taking msc. In finance and investment.
My classes are evening based and during the day I train because I am playing in the second tier soccer league in Kenya. Iam playing for saint joseph football club which pays only training allowances. I have saved some money to start up and I am deferring my education to next semester since I don’t have enough fees. I am intending to use the loan to buy food for the chicks I will buy. The average amount of money am expecting per month for a start is 80 dollars and my monthly cost is around 35 dollars.
The training allowance we get per week is 5 dollars and I will use that amount to repay my loan .by the time my business picks up I will use the money to re invest in the business. I have a project plan of five years whereby it will mature to a programme I have named ASPIRE INDIGENOUS AGRICULTURE PROGRAMME ( AIAP). AIAP will be a farm where we concentrate on indigenous farm products like arrow roots, sweet potatoes, cassava. Animals like sheep, goats, cows which are drought resistant. this will encourage farmers from our region to do the same and by doing so we create food security for the region.
Chicken is a delicacy that is popular among the urban population of Nakuru and with the report that red meat is harmful to human beings in the long run, demand for white meat has never been this big. Most hotels in Nakuru serve chicken with French fries commonly known as chips. I am targeting the small scale hotels firstly and then apply for tenders to supply government agencies like the military camp in Lanet, Nakuru.
I will run this poultry farm for a year and gradually grow towards my goals and I believe with the right approach and funding I will create job opportunity for many people in the coming 4 years. Agriculture will protect our environment because people have turned to cutting trees for charcoal causing desertification and ensuring continuity to the perennial drought and famine problems.

Loan Proposal

Loan Proposal
My project needs funding for a start . I have set up structures already using my previous savings and all that is remaining is purchasing the chicks and their food. Iam aiming at formulating the poultry meal for my chicken by myself as at September to reduce costs.
A day old chick costs 0.5 dollars and iam intending to start with 50 chicks needing a total of 25dollars The ministry of veterinary services provides services for farmers at the early stages of their farming projects so I have taken advantage of this to reduce medicine costs for my chicken.
The 50 chicks will need a 100kg sack of food every 2 weeks if well regulated. A sack retails at 20 dollars and in 6 weeks I will need a total of 60 dollars. Marketing my products will not be a problem because demand is readily available and therefore I will need continuity to supply my customers on regular basis.
I am planning on buying 50 chicks every two weeks so that when I supply the first batch the second group is maturing and I get money to purchase the third batch. Doing this will ensure my profits is re invested to the business.
In 12 weeks I will have paid my loan fully using my weekly payments and therefore apply for a new loan to expand and manage my poultry business.this business will benefit me financially and also create self employment for me. I am targeting a big farm in the long run creating employment for many people. White meat is on demand and for its nutritional value I will have created an avenue for a healthy nation.
A full chicken retails at 4 dollars. If I successfully breed 50 chicks I will get a total of 180 dollars minimum. I will re invest the profits of around 90 dollars and save a small sum in the poultry account I have opened in my bank.
I am planning to re invest to make my farm a source of employment in the coming future but most of all to enable my dream of having an indigenous farm to curb the persistent hunger problem in my county
