As long as you get there with the repayments in the end I'm sure it will be fine. Then you should be able to get another loan without the initial costs you had from joining Zidisha to take your business even further.

Francis, the explanation for the difference is that the first loan from Zidisha includes a "lifetime membership fee" and "loan fund" contribution. If you make another loan for your business, you won't have to pay that again. It might make the initial loan look expensive, but you could make many more loans in future, without having to pay the membership fee each time.

You are welcome. I think in the past borrowers had to pay a fee up front separately before asking for a loan. Now they allow borrowers to have the fee deducted from the first loan if you're successful in raising funds, but that doesn't leave very much left if the loan was small. Your volunteer mentor might be able to explain more. Hopefully with your next loan you'll be able to get the cake business started! You've already got the chef's hat so I'm sure it will go well. How are things in your insurance company? I work at an insurance company in England.
