About Me

I am from Parakou and was born there in 1972. I went to school up to the 10th grade. After going to school I started helping my big brother sell in his shop and he would send me to Nigeria to purchase items. I am married and father of 3 children. After getting married, I managed to become independent by opening my very own store.

My Business

Starting in the year 2000 the store has been created with a capital of 1,000,000 FCFA and my clientele has increased regularly since then. I sell glass, mirrors and woodwork items. I stock up in Nigeria and in Cotonou. My current capital is 5,000,000 FCFA and my daily revenue is 150,000 FCFA while my daily profit is 20,000 FCFA. This profit is split between my shopkeeper and myself. The rest of the money is used to increase my capital.

Loan Proposal

Hello dear lenders,
I would be happy to expand my store by selling keys and door handles. I will also purchase frames/glass for house windows and doors. The demand is strong due to a new trend of modern house building. Today in Parakou and other neighboring cities, people build houses with framed windows. For a better design people buy modern door handles. I plan on buying items in neighboring Nigeria. Your loan will help me increase my capital and purchase more items.
Thank you

Hello Lenders - On Oct. 29 I was able to speak to Mr. Alagbo's Community Leader. The CL assures me that Mr. Alagbo is in good health and that he knows his whereabouts. The CL says he will speak to Mr. Alagbo to encourage him to contact Zidisha so that we remain in contact and that we may assist him in becoming current. Thank you for your patience. Rachel

Hello lenders - as a virtual volunteer here at Zidisha, here is a little update about Mr. Alagbo - our last contact with Mr. Alagbo was in September, and our latest attempt to get in touch with him was by phone on Oct. 10th.
Attempts will continue to re-establish contact and repayment. Thank-you for your patience.

Good evening Zidisha and my lenders. My business thanks you with great joy. Thanks to the money I received, my business benefitted greatly because my stocks are up to date. We decided to "solder" next month in order to be able to receive another loan. Because Ramadan is near and the demand will be great due to the religious marriage ceremonies that take place here. Building cabinets, house remodeling, etc... We hope to have another loan as soon as possible to be able to get supplies and to respond to client demand. Thank you.

Good evening, lenders! I am very happy to welcome my representative Mien to my home in Parakou, and together we spoke of Zidisha. She helped me understand a lot about the structure of Zidisha. She allowed me to ask many questions and her responses were truly satisfying. I thank Zidisha and the lenders for trusting me, and I will respect my commitment. I will talk to friends, colleges, and to all who are close to me to say that it is wonderful working with Zidisha and it's lenders.

    Hi everyone,
My name is Mien, I am West Africa client relationship manager at Zidisha and I am currently visiting Parakou, in the north of Benin. Benin is a new country for Zidisha and till now there are only a few Zidisha borrowers. Let’s hope there will be many more people applying after my visit!
Parakou is the 3rd city of Benin, situated in the north of the country. The city has a lively market where women sell sweet mangoes, fresh vegetables, and delicious cheese made from cow milk. The business of Mr Alagbo is situated next to the market: he sells glass for windows and frames for pictures and he also offers some hardware products.
He was very happy to meet a representative of Zidisha because since a long time he had been wondering why an individual in Europe or the US would want to invest money in an entrepreneur in a far away country? I gave him my answers (including the fact that many people around the world are willing to help others as long as they know how the money is used and see the results of their investment) but please feel free to tell Mr Alagbo more about your personal reasons. He is very grateful anyway and he is looking forward to work more with Zidisha in the future. I told him about the importance of communicating regularly with lenders in order to invest in this future and he promised he'll post a personal update soon.
