About Me

My name is Joseph Kirui aged 48 and a resident of Kipchebor location Ochi village in Kericho County. I am married and blessed with two children namely Brian and Faith. I am among those lucky few who managed to attend school in the 70s and 80s, I completed high school in a day school close to the town ( Kericho Day Secondary) My dad was killed in 1972 after a fight with my uncle. I was left with only my mum to care for us. She struggled so much to a point of selling the parcel of land left behind for her so that we get an education. After high school I managed to join one of the family member and they enrolled me to become there cowboy. That was when I saved and join college. I work mainly on a quarterly contract basis with one of the NGOs who pay fewer amounts to gather for my family needs. The land which is now remaining with us is so small and that prompted me to start a zero grazing unit of three cows. I started the project from the savings, and the money which I got from the contract. My first born son Brian is so determined to be an engineer in life while the second born wants to be a doctor. I normally pass my time being with my family and encouraging my children to study. I also balance it with my dairy farming project. And most of all Reading the Bible since if it was not of God’s will then my life would have been different.

My Business

I own and ran a zero grazing dairy unit in my Village Ochi. I provide milk and milk products i.e. mursik to the residents of my village and the surplus to the town. My wife is the one responsible for preparation of mursik. I started this business because of limited space to grace the cows in the fields. My small parcel of land which is almost ¾ acre accommodates both the dairy units and a small poultry unit. I started about 7 years ago and have been doing well. I make a net profit between 10- 20% on most items and my customers are mainly the urban dwellers. Most of the revenue from the business goes to the school fees for my two children. And rarely do I get a surplus to improve on the business. I do most of the things to myself since the business cannot sustain to employ a cowboy. The challenge which has greatly affected my business is space to plant more feeds since the income generated goes mainly to fees and the feeds.

Loan Proposal

Thank you lenders for this opportunity to interact with you through such a platform, I am requesting you to fund the project which is the food basket for my family. From the funds which I have hopes that you will grant me the trust I will manage to complete the following, Build a small house for the calves since they have been staying out in the cold and you all know the consequences of cold to calves. The total amount to build it is 110 USD which will enable me to do the following; buy nails, iron sheets, poles and timber, this will cost 3.5 USD per iron sheet and it need 10 nails 3kgs and it will cost 1.8 USD per Kg and 10 poles each 4USD the balance will pay for the Fundi (person to build). If you help me to this then my calves will not sleep in the cold again thanks and God bless.
