About Me

I was born and raised up in Kisii county. I went to schools in the same county both my primary and secondary education. Life was so hard and i had rough moments with the school management because i could not pay fees on time and sometimes i used to stay out of school for half a term.
But i thank God that when i did my high school exams i passed and joined university. I trained a s a teacher and taught in high school for several years before joining the Ministry of Commerce where i am a business advisor.
I recently bought a farm and want to start rearing chicken on the farm. I have attended a seminar on intensive farming and my burning desire is to maximize the land and get the most out of it. So i have lined up a number of viable projects starting with local improved chicken farming for both eggs and meat. I have chosen this project because it is easy to start and manage. I will like to start with 300 chicks in the next one month.
The next project is rabbit farming which i will like to start after six months of the first project followed by pig farming by the end of next year.
Land in my county is small holder farms and the best one can do is intensive farming and applying the best management practices. One of my sons wants to be an agricultural expert and he loves my proposed venture. However, i normally tell my children to follow their hearts. let them choose what they love. When training entrepreneurs i always insist that they do what they love most and the same applies to my kids.
I have been keeping local chicken before i joined my current employer, and i used to sell and pay school fees for my son in primary. I love it and gained a lot experience needed to rear chicken. I can raise a one day old chick successfully.

My Business

I want to rear poultry and keep locally improved chicken from Kenya Agricultural Research Institute. I will sell eggs and meat. In the next six months they will start laying eggs and research shows that they lay up to 85% per day. Local chicken eggs are in high demand and highly valued especially by bakeries that make cakes and other confectioneries, while local chicken meat is really regarded as a delicacy. The demand is so big and most hotels are looking for these products.
Since this is a start up i will repay the first two loans from my salary.
I love chicken farming because it is my passion and they are cheaper to keep and they are in great demand. I already have a market for these products.
The typical costs for my project include structure for my upward of 600 birds, Cost of buying chicks and chick marsh, and disease management, cost of buying egg crates and labor among others. My revenue will come from sale of eggs and meat.
I will use the profits to repay loans, save and expand the poultry project, start the rabbit rearing and then pig farming. The rest of the profits i will use in improving living standards of my family.
Last week i bought 300 chicks that are in the brooder doing very well.

Loan Proposal

I used to the first loan to buy building materials for the my poultry project. I spent every thing in buying iron sheets.
Now i will like to spent the second loan in buying more materials for the same project. It will cost me $266 to buy iron sheets and $300 to buy nails and wire mesh. But i will do this in stages as i get the funds. I know at the end of the day i will achieve my dream of poultry project.
The materials will enable me build a cage for the poultry project.

From my previous loans i bought several ornamental birds like Geese(2 females, one male), Turkeys( two females, one male), Guinea fowls( 3 females, one male, Ducks( male and female and Egyptian ducks( one male and one female). I also bought several local chickens currently at 40. One of my turkeys has 2 months old 9 chicks and the other one is hatching by end of this month. IO am expecting between 10 and 15 chicks. I have 16 guinea fowls chicks and 30 eggs are in the incubator whose hatching date is 5th of August. I also bought 10 eggs of Snow White geese and my hen is sitting on them and i expect chicks to be hatched by end of this month.
I have also constructed a 2000 capacity cage for my birds. It is ready. I need around 1000 dollars to completely actualize my dreams. However, i am doing one thing at a time, accomplishing one goal at a time.
I have made a lot of progress and i am excited courtesy of Zidisha and my esteemed lenders. I am looking forward to a better working relationship.

I am really excited of the progress i am making courtesy of Zidisha loan. I will like to thank my Lenders for the sacrifice and trust they put on me. I did not give any security but only trust.
I am sure i will reach my goal and succeed from this project. In the next few weeks i will show my lenders and zidisha community what a small loan can do to ones life as long as one believes in his or her dream.
May God bless all my lenders and bless them abundantly!!

I am happy that i have repaid my first loan on time and successfully. Over Christmas holidays i started collecting rare birds because i love them. I admire watching them play, forage, eat, lay eggs and hatch chicks.
Secondly these birds are almost extinct in my community and our children do not know the difference between a duck and goose.
It is my hobby and thanks to Zidisha lenders for making it possible.

I bought hens during Christmas season and sold them at 40 % profit margin. I got an order from a restaurant whose manager is an old friend of mine. He has tasked me to supply 40 chickens every week at a good price. I need to clear this loan and borrow a relatively bigger loan to be able to service the order. This will boost my poultry project that i had desired to start. I am still building the house for the project.
