My name is Anarfi Daniel, an entrepreneur and currently a biochemistry student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology, Kumasi-Ghana. I am the second of four boys and three girls of my parents who are Ghanaians. I attended Grace Baptist preparatory school where i wrote and had distinction in my BECE. I got admitted to Asanteman Senior High School were i read General Science programme and excelled excellently in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. After the completion of my second cycle education i worked as a pupil teacher ( untrained teacher) to help raise money to supplement that of my parents to cater for Secondary school education. Though the pay was not enough, i was able to save and buy some things i needed for my tertiary education. The poor family background made things very difficult for me to enter the university after senior high school even though i made excellent grades in the WASSCE, the little i had on me was been used to pay for my kid sister's school fees because i wanted her too to complete school with ease. I started doing business with a small capital I had on me and this has enabled me to get enrolled at the university reading Bsc. Clinical Biochemistry. I very interested in biomedical research because Africa has a lot of issues concerning medical research. We lack laboratories to conduct good research about diseaes that affects the people. l will bring my expertise to bear to help raise the standards of biomedical research when i finish my programme.
I started the business of buying and selling mobile phones to my fellow students at the university and the people around. By the grace of God the business has grown. My business has grew stronger and am hopeful my ties with zidisha will make my business grow even stronger and become of the most successful buinessman in my town and be able to employ people too.
I sell mobile phones and accessories to people at affordable prices.I also repair phones and other electronic gadgets. Students use their mobile phones to surf for information on the internet for research purposes and other things. Some also use their phones to connect the university WIFI to search for vital informations relevent to their study areas. They share files and other useful infomation with their colleagues with their phone and some even read the note in PDF format and other forms from their phones.These reasons make the demand for mobile phones very high among the student population. I choose this business because of its attractiveness and the high level of income i get and above all it is very easy to operate it as it does not need huge sums of money to start it. Phones and accessories are one of the most sought after goods in Ghana. 700 dollars worth of second hand mobile phones and 400 dollars worth of phone accessories like battery, charger and earpiece could raise significant revenue.
Highlighted below is the breakdown of product cost and corresponding revenue;
700 dollars worth of second hand phones: 450 dollars profit.
400 dollars worth of asscessories( charger, batteries, phone cover and earpiece) =350 dollars.
The profit generated is reinvested into the business to grow it and make it very attractive and lucrative. part is also used to clear my academic and residential fees.
I my children to have good education and be good citizens and develop the passion to help others succeed in their endeavours.
I will buy/procure more mobile phones and sell to generate enough dividends/revenue to run my business and repay the loan as early as possible to build trustworthiness and be a zidisha member in good standing to qualify for big loans and be able to invite trustworthy members to also join and realise their business expansion dreams.
