About Me

My name is Leonard Muthama. I have a wife and a daughter. I love to help community; in fact I have a merry go round group formed for community to raise loans that boost our businesses. I am a farmer and I love my job very much because it has saved my life several times. I am a man of understanding and honesty guides me to connect with people. I come from a family where I was raised through daily farming. I finished my secondary education at Naivasha mixed boarding school. It is our main economic activity. I have relied on it entirely for a living. It is dairy farming that I a ca attest has brought me this far in life.

My story cannot be finished without mentioning how I gave up on my career for dairy farming. I tell this story since it reflects who I am, where I come from and why I love keeping cow and why I aspire to campaign for it. I was employed as a herdsmen by a renown dairy farmer where I could take the cows to the forest and in the afternoon I could milk the and them and supply milk to local kiosks and dairy corporative. That was in year 2007. I used to wake up at 4:00am in the morning and begin milking until 6:00am. Then I could supply a few litres for my family and the rest I could pack it in milk churns for sale. At that time milk used to sell at a retail price of Ksh.30.00. I had many customers who bought milk at. This is what inspired me to think of starting my own business of dairy farming. My boss was very pleased by my work and often did not want me to leave and work for someone else. I discovered I had potential customers who preferred tome to supply mil to their shops and that motivated me some much. My wife encouraged me by saving some money from her maize farming business to finance my project. I wanted to buy a dairy cow and rear it. I bought one and I fed it until it was mature. It could provide milk for my family and 6 to 8 litres for sale. That was still not a good catch for me and I had planned to be selling 12 to 16 litres per day. This is the business I have been doing to date and I hope zidisha can help me raise money to buy a good dairy breed that can give me more milk. When I learned about zidisha it has raised my hope in a way that I wish to express my request for your assistance to make my project more viable.

My Business

My main business activity is dairy farming. It has enabled me to meet my family needs and pay school fees for my daughter. I sell six to eight litres of milk in the morning and in the evening. The milk sells at $0.45524 per litre. In total I can sell $3.64189 in the morning and when I in the evening I can sell about Ksh. 400 per day. I estimate a cost of about 4.55237 per day. This is $31.8666per week. I make about $25.4932 per week. That profit I use it to buy dairy meal which cost $17.0714. I can save some amount for future plans. I plan to buy another dairy cow which can bring more profit and I know I will be able to do that. I normally pay worker who supply Napier grass for animal food. When I get the loan I will be able to practice my farming activity at a commercial level. I hope zidisha can assist me to reach my goals and I will be sincerely willing to maintain a good relationship with zidisha even with my future plans.

Loan Proposal

Since demand for milk is increasing at an alarming rate, I have been face with a shortage and I would like to be able to satisfy my customers. I would like to buy another cow and I target to sell up to 20 litres per day. I am capable of repaying the loan in time as the risks of keeping dairy cows are very low. The climate in our place is cool and wet which is suitable for the cows. Grass is always in plenty and that saves me from spending extra coin on dairy meal. I am requesting zidisha to lift my profits by giving me a loan; I therefore invite all lenders to assist me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
