About Me

I grew up in a family of very strong people who believe that success isn't found in employment. My father was a veterinarian and my mother is a business woman and watching how they complemented one another and the peace and tranquility that each enjoyed in their line of work caused me to desire doing business. Luckily, I developed a gift of plaiting people's hair and I used that talent throughout my young days. Later in life, I decided to turn my gift into a business for two reasons. First, employment in my country is not a guarantee regardless of how well educated you are. Secondly, I had a passion in salon work that I needed to fulfil, and so I did. Finding capital has been a problem because the interest rates on bank loans are crazy and unreliable for a start up business hence my turning to Zidisha.

My Business

I run a salon in my neighborhood, which is my main secondary source of income. I am also a trained teacher and I teach in a certain school within my locality. My business is my passion and it is the dream I intend to follow in the long run, but I have to grow the business to a higher level. Salon work serves both my personal and financial needs greatly because it allows me to give working opportunities to many young people who have been locked out of the white collar jobs. I get young people looking for something to do even on part time so that they can fend for their families daily and helping them gives my life purpose. Although it is a start up business, the few experiences I have had in the industry are overwhelming and I desire to explore more.

Loan Proposal

I intend to buy braids with the money from the loan to help in the smooth running of my salon. The commonly used braid in my society cost about 60 Kenyan shillings a piece, therefore, the loan requested will enable me to buy a few. Having my own braids in the salon will benefit my business greatly because clients will be able to receive multiples services in a sitting. In other words, clients will noit have to go and buy braids from a shop before they come to be fixed. My salon will serve as a one stop shop which will pull more customers to my place thus raising the level of income. Moreover, we will be able to sell these braids to other people at a profit, which is also a way of raising more income.
