I was born and brought up in kaimosi. I live and do my business in kaimosi. I had the privilege of schooling up to secondary school. I however could not proceed to college as my could not afford to pay for my college fees. I did not lose hope. I decided to engage myself as an apprentice at a friend's workshop where I learnt how to make cookstoves. My friend taught me for free.
My dream for the future is to expand the business. Through this I will be able to live a good life, marry and settle down and be able to fully support my family well from the business income. Am still single and hope to one day settle down. Am a very young man with a lot of ambition. Unlike other youths in Kenya today, I did not choose work. I do not anticipate to be employed neither am I looking forward to getting a white collar job.
I assemble improved cookstoves. I started this business in 2000. I decided to do this business because I could not get a job with my Form 4 certificate. The biggest challenge is how to handle competition from other artisans who make cheap and poor quality stoves.
My customers are retailers and individual customers. I plan to become the largest assembler of improved cookstoves in the whole of vihiga county.
Given the loan together with my little savings, I will buy more cladding materials and liners to assemble complete stoves. This will increase my sales hence revenue. This will increase my earnings.
Thanks zidisha and all the lenders for your support
