About Me

I am a third born child in the family of seven, four boys and three sisters, i was born on 7th February 1982 in Maseno mission hospital, my mum was transferred to Kakamega referral hospital the following year and i got an opportunity to grow up in Kakamega Town Amalemba Estate. I started my nursery and primary education in 1988 at Township primary School and did my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education at the same school in 1997, i proceeded to Nyang'ori High School for my Secondary Education which i did my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2001, i proceeded to Uganda for my A-level Education and sat for The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education in 2003. In August 2004 i joined Makerere University in Kampala for my Bachelors Degree in social sciences majoring in political science. In August 2007 i got employed with Barclay's Bank of Kenya Eldoret Branch where i worked as a sales representative. Its during that time that i was exposed to the need for food security and how profitable Agriculture can be, in 2009 i voluntarily opted not to renew my contract and resolved in poultry rearing an activity i had started doing in 2005 while i was still a student. Poultry is a delicacy in western region so its on high demand yet most farmers in the region don't take it as a commercial enterprise, in 2012 i bought my first incubator with an egg capacity of 528 eggs and started hatching local chicken for rearing i latter started hatching and selling day old Indigenous chicks, early this year acquired a bigger incubator with an egg capacity of 4240 eggs. I am blessed with three daughters Sally 4years a charming keen to details and very attentive, Janet 2 and half talkative and likes singing along different tunes and Pauline 1 likes imitating people on phone. I love traveling and making new friends.

My Business

My business name is Chickstar Investment and it was registered on 24th of October 2012, my main products have been production of day old indigenous chicks to farmers. The chicks are on high demand because they are easy to rear and feed very little compared to broilers, they are highly resistant to diseases and the act as biological pest controllers as they feed on the insects in our homesteads. I choose this business because majority of the farmers prefer the local indigenous birds but they dint have any company providing the breed in large quantities. My typical costs include purchase of 1000 fertilized eggs per week @ ksh. 25 each, Electricity cost per month at an average of Ksh. 8500, Petrol and oil for the generator at an average of Ksh. 2500 per month, transport, marketing and packaging cost at an average of Ksh. 7000 per month, their is also vaccination cost for Marecks and Newcastle vaccines administered on day one at a cost of Ksh. 4500 per hatch. My total expenditure per month is Ksh. 136, 0000 my income fro four hatches ranges between 1800 chicks to 3500 chicks per month depending with the quality of eggs. I sale a day old chick at Ksh.100 making a gross ob between Ksh.180,000 and Ksh.350,000. These leaves me with an average net of between Ksh. 50000 to Ksh. 200,000. I use the profits in meeting all my house bills and requirements and paying school fees for Sally, Janet Teresa my wife who is pursuing her bachelors degree in Education french at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology i am also paying my house help Ksh. 5000, i pay for my National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
