About Me

I am the last born in a family of 4 children and I have grown up in Githurai which is an informal settlement on the outskirt of Nairobi. My childhood was full of problems range from lack of food, lack of school supplies and lack of clothing but these challenge did not distract me from completing my high school education. I later secured marketing training from local community organization then secured employment from a marketing institution on casual basis hence my allowance I partly supported my family as well as saved with an intention of starting own business.

After 3 years, I started my own business which involves burning and selling of movie CD's the business has grown and now the demand for the products is high .

When am not working I am playing soccer at the community level as it keeps me fit and network with other young people.

My Business

My business has been in existence for over 7 years and is based in Githurai and it involves buying movie's and reselling to the local people. The business has been growing because I have been in position to stock most latest movie's thus local people love my business. I choose this business because I have the marketing skills, love movie's and their was a market niche for the product. My typical cost involves buying the movie's, paying rent for my premises and other utility hence my average monthly revenue is approximately $ 170. I use my profit to offset family business as well as saving with intention to boost green grocery business for my wife so that our family income can increase.

Loan Proposal

My business has been in existence for over 4 years and it is based in Githurai . It involves buying and selling of music CD's to the local people hence I intend to introduce video CD's because the demand is high thus I intend to use part of my savings and Zidisha loan to buy Video CD's worth $ 135. The video CD's will range from local drama, international soap opera, documentary, cartoons and war movies. This will diversify my business and meet the ever growing demand for my products which will contribute towards increase in profit. I intend to use part of my profit to support my family and boost green grocery business for my wife. Please support my loan

Hi Stephen. You mentioned you're buying a duplicator (which I'm assuming is some sort of burning device)...

How can we be assured that this won't be ripping off the local artists by purchasing a single album of theirs, then simply duplicating it, without the artist making any extra money?

    Thank you in advance, Emma.

Movie shop are not allowed to purchase or sell local songs. Its prohibited by the kenyan goverment, if caught there is a heavy purnishment

What we usually do is dublicate there cd's and they pay as for that. If an artist wants you to sell or distribute his/her cd's, you must agree on terms and sign a contract at the music copyright of kenya.
