About Me

Greetings, my name is Claire Batsinduka aged 22years. I am a loving wife and proud new mum to a beautiful 4 Month baby girl. I was born in Rwanda but relocated to Kenya with my family and here in Kenya is where I was schooled and eventually started my own family.

My educational background is in Sales and Marketing where I attained a Diploma in the year 2012. After that I joined a modelling school and I have done various modelling jobs. My hobby is fasion related and I am passionate about fashion, makeup and other accessories.

Since I was blessed with a child I opted to be a stay at home mum and take time to raise my baby and takecare of my family. But I still needed to earn some money to help my family.

So I decided to combine my educational background in sales with my passion in fashion and opted to start a clothing store. I was lucky to get a shop that is near my neighbourhood and also in a very strategic position next to the road where many commuters board and alight buses.

I set up shop and started in January this year and so far I must say I am happy with the progress. Using the experience gained from working with various designers I am able to advise my clients on what outfits to combine to compliment their body. I also import my clother from Uganda and Dubai so this helps me offer unique and affordable designs to my clients. My location, unique outfits, good price and personalized service has made my business successful so far but I believe if I add more products like handbags, shoes and other accessories then I will increase my profits.

My Business

My store currently offers ladies clothing both official and casual. I tend to source from a wide supply of importers thus offering unique and better priced outfits than what my competitors offer.
I also buy second hand clothing imported from U.S.A and U.K which I take to the laundry and package thus offering almost new outfits that are not common.

Apart from the large number of walkin clients, I have a client database that I use to deliver new arrivals to them in their homes or offices. I am currently working on a facebook page that will help me make more sales online.

I started off with a stock of about USD500 but currently my stock is valued at around USD1800. Every month I ensure I add about USD100 worth of clothes to the current stock. My expenses at the shop monthly in terms of rent, salaries and utilities are USD300. My Gross Sales on average per month total about USD800-1000 so after expenses and buying new stock I can save about USD300 per month.

Loan Proposal

Following the positive response from my customers I would like to add additional handbags to meet the customer demand. I would also like to introduce ladies shoes and accessories to complete the outfit chosen by the customer.

I would like to introduce heels, boots and flat sandals for the footwear and accessories like necklaces, hats, headbands and earrings.

I have been receiving a lot of requests for the above items thus i believe that they will sell well once i introduce them at my store. It is also the holiday season so most customers are looking to buy new outfits for the holiday season so I would like to have enough stock to satisfy my customers.

I therefore appeal to the generosity of lenders out there to help me achieve this goal. Thank you all and may you be blessed for your kindness.

Hi lenders, I'm Ian and Claire's mentor. I managed to reach her today and she faced some challenges in her business but she is upbeat and positive she will be able to make sales in the coming week. She is very grateful for the support the Zidisha lenders gave her.

Dear lenders,i am taking this chance to really thank you for the loan you offered me.I used the money to add ladies shoes and handbags into my shop which attracted more customers and it was easy to dress a lady from head to toe and all my customers were really happy, and they even spread the word and I get other customers who give their orders through whatsap and I deliver them.
Due to winter season in our country,
the sales decreased abruptly. this is because now every person is shopping for warm cloths like coats, trenchcoats, heavy scarfs and warm boots. So hopefully with your help I will use the next loan to add this to my stock.

I met Claire Batsinduka briefly when I recently visited her husband and fellow Zidisha member, Xavier Kamau. Rwandan born Claire runs a clothes store on a busy road in her home area of Buru Buru and it is really nicely finished and arranged making it stand out from many other clothes stores in Nairobi. Claire, a former model, says it’s always been her dream to run a clothes store and as the shop grows she hopes to expand the range of clothes, shoes and handbags she can offer customers.
Claire has an employee to assist her in the store when she’s busy being mum to four month old Myrla and step mum to twelve year old Sabrina, ten year old Romeo and five year old Molly.

Sorry for not replying earlier but it's great to see your loan was funded and has been disbursed. I hope business is going well and keep us updated on how the new handbags go.
If I'm in Buru Buru I'll let you know and stop by to say hello - and maybe have some lunch!
        Thanks, Liz
