About Me

My name is Peter Muthui. I hail from a place called Limuru, Central Kenya. This place has a good climate for agriculture and farming is our livelihood. During my childhood, I recall accompanying my parents to work in the farm and looking after our livestock. It was fun grazing the animals and taking them to the river to drink water. I started school at Manguo primary and later Ngenia High School. My Education life was marred with financial difficulties. I was sent many a times to fetch school fees but God saw me through my education.

My Business

After school, I borrowed money from a Sacco that I had joined and bought a second hand Motorcycle. I used the Motorcycle to as a Taxi to ferry people around and out of limuru town. These Motorcycle that are used as Taxis are commonly referred to as Boda Bodas and their services are in high demand since they can move to any place and are not affected by traffic jams. I came to like this business since I learnt to ride motorcycles at an early age when I was in secondary school and also due to the availability of Motorcycles at a cheaper price and they are easy to service and maintain. In a day, I make up to 7 dollars amounting to 210 dollars per month. I use part of these money to pay for my house rent and to pay for my children's school fees. I also use part of this money to service my Motorcycle to be in good condition for my business.

Loan Proposal

I have been doing the business of buying and supplying milk to urban dwellers in our town. I have a small milk shop where I operate my business. I use my motorbike to collect milk from farmers and transport it to my shop in town where my wife helps me in selling the milk. I have faced several challenges while doing this business, like low milk production from farmers due to prolonged drought, over production of milk once the rains have come and there is plenty of pasture for the livestock and changes in milk prices affected by high cost of animal feeds.
I am requesting a loan from Zidisha to help me buy a fridge. A new fridge goes for about 300 dollars. When I buy this fridge, it will help me to preserve milk especially during this rainy season where the production of milk is quite high. This will minimize my losses incurred when the milk goes bad and will also ensure my customers get fresh milk that will keep them happy and coming back for more.
With my customers being happy, I expect to sell more milk and my profits are bound to increase to between 10 dollars to 15 dollars per day.
