About Me

My name is Susan. I am the first born in a family of 3 siblings. My parents are running small businesses back at home having retired from the civil service for several years.

I am married to a handsome a supportive gentleman called Nderitu and we are blessed with 2 children (a boy - the first born and a girl the last born). The boy is in class six and the girl is in class one. The boy wants to be a pilot while the girl wants to be a doctor.

I have a background in business administrative and legal courses. Before i started the business, i had worked in different Law firms in Nairobi Kenya. I use the experience i got from managing those firms in my day to day running of the business.

My Business

I sell clothes at the famous Gikomba Market in Nairobi, Kenya. I buy the goods in wholesale bulk (bales) and resell them to the retailers who resell to the end users.

Most of the bales are usually imported from European countries. These clothes are in very high demand because they are in good quality and are affordable to most Kenyans.

I sell different varieties of clothes in order to suit the preferences of my customers. However, I try to match the products to their demand.

I choose this business when i left my employment because it was easier to start with the capital i had and clothes are a basic necessity to each and every person hence they are always in high demand. I also had a taste for Fashion hence i decided to give it a try since i knew i would hardly go wrong in this choice.

I use the profits i make to help my husband in bringing up our family like in paying the school fees of our children and also in taking part time classes to further my education. Once in a while, i also help the less fortunate people in the society like children from orphaned families. Putting a smile on their face is always my pleasure.

I also try to empower young and ambitious young people trying to come up in business through sharing some of the lessons i have learnt in doing business, dealing with customers and in advising them on how to save some of the proceeds they make from their business.

Loan Proposal

I plan to add more bails of my clothes for my clothing business. My last loan helped me expand the variety of clothes i am selling to my customers. They have been requesting me for more different varieties and colors of the clothes i provided. Each extra bale will cost me Kshs 15,000.

I have talked with her and she has promised to readjust the instalments and continue repaying. She told me she had difficulties as her business got burned down but she has since restarted over. She plans to clear the arrears hopefully in a month.

There was an inferno which destroyed the many stalls at the Gikomba Market. This really affected our businesses. But since everything is slowly returning to normalcy, i should be able to clear my loan soon.
