I grew up in a big family. I attended Kasikeu Primary School for my primary
education and Kasikeu Boys High School for my Secondary education. Been
born in the big family I had so many challenges as my parents were not working.
After my 'O' level I came to Nairobi and started looking for casual laborers job
as I wasn't trained. I later got a job in the transport industry. After working
for some times I managed to buy a second hand van which I use to transport
passengers to various destinations and they pay bus fare. The unique thing
about land in Machakos County is very fertile. Being a Kamba by tribe I admire
my culture. When my children grow up I want to ensure they get the best
education for them to be able to support themselves. My hobby is reading
the bible and preaching.
I am poultry farmer with 200 chicks and 200 hens. The business is in demand because many people don't have time to keep chicken. I choose this kind of business because I make money every day. My typical costs and revenue involved in three months is about US$1,000.00 . I use the profit to take care of my siblings and education my children. My wife is jobless so I reinvested by buying for her a bale of second hand cloths to sell.Being a festive season,i would like to buy more chicken for sale.I will need 300 hens and 100 chicks for US$ 425 .This includes food and medicine. In addition , i will add some more second hand clothes for my wife to sell during this season. This will cost additional USD$140.I expect to get a profit of 45-55%.I intend to use the profit to pay school fees for my son in form 2 and the rest for family upkeep.
I will buy spare parts of about US$79.00 to do monthly maintenance for my van.
If a vehicle is well maintained, it can operate on long routes without any break down.
I will benefit double because the bus fare for long routes is alot. I expect an increase
in profit of about 60%.
