Dear all,
As the current Client Relationship Intern in Burkina Faso, I'll like to give you an update of Adama's situation. I visited him recently and I can only reaffirm previous comments made about the business being slow. Adama's shop is located at CAM, a low-budget place to stay in Bobo-Dioulasso. During my stay there I only ever saw 3 other foreign tourists.

With the impending holiday season, Adama advised me that he would be able to start paying back small amounts in the coming couple of weeks. This is, of course, dependent on tourists returning now that the problems in Mali have quietened down.

Dear lenders,
You may be aware of the fact that the security crisis in the Sahel has reduced tourism in Burkina Faso to almost zero. Adama has bought African art objects with the money of his loan, but he hasn't been able to sell many of them due to the lack of visitors. During the past months I have spoken to Adama several times. He has rescheduled his loan but is still not able to start repayments as was planned. He knows that he has missed quite some payments now and he will do everything he can to repay his full loan as soon as possible. Yesterday evening we agreed that he would start repaying small amounts each time he has some money. He promised to start as soon as Monday June 3. He also said that he is waiting for the payment of a large order. This money would be available by the end of July. He will then try to settle the rest of his loan.
