My name is Samuel Ngumbao. I am married with six children; four are schooling while two are still yet to start schooling. I live in Mariango village within Mwakwala sub-location in Bamba location, Ganze division Kilifi county. I'm a charcoal seller. I buy charcoal in bulk from those who prepare it and resell it to retailers. In class seven, I had to drop out. I started this business basically to earn a living and to improve my family's condition which was almost starving. I purchase various items from the earnings of my business such as empty sacks, ropes or the tapes, rags, strings, and the metal nails/strings, etc. I also buy food, vegetables, medicine and clothes, and pay for school fees and transport for my children, etc. It is my hope that, with a Zidisha loan, I can increase the quantity of charcoal I buy and even open another ''banda'' charcoal shop elsewhere to improve my income.
My business is charcoal selling. This business involves selling of well sack parked charcoal in a charcoal ''banda'' or charcoal shop. There is a demand for this business because charcoals serve as fast fuel mostly used in the third class family. In addition, charcoal fuel is used for warming especially during cold seasons. My customers prefer my business because I sell to them the best charcoal, that is, charcoal made from the hardwood trees that have not been rained on. In addition to this, I sell and communicate to them in good language, hence attracting and retaining them. This business is profitable because, for instance, one sack of charcoal bought at KSh 450 can be sold at KSh 1000. Risks that face my business are lack of transport and proper storage. My typical monthly income is KSh 45000 and my monthly expenditure is KSh 30000 and my profit therefore is KSh 15000. With this amount as my profit, I can repay Zidisha without any problem.
I'm in need of the loan for I want to increase/boost the stock of my business. I will buy 50 sacks of charcoal (50 kgs each) at KSh 600. I will buy 50 empty sacks (KSh 25 each) and some 500 packing packets at 50 KSh per pack. This will help me run the business well. As a result, I will be able to help my family as well as reaching the lives of the less fortunate people in my community.
