About Me

Since early 2014, I have been working on various writing assignments, from draft contracts and copy-writing to web content and ad text. Most of my assignments come from building relationships with clients online from all over the world.

Not only does my new path offer the promise of greater financial security for me, it also allows me to have more time with my family. I am also occasionally able to give my extra work to a neighbor or friend who needs help.

My Business

Starting January 2014, I have been offering clients from all over the world with excellent web and business content for use on their websites, banners, advertisements and brochures.

Great web copy not only helps improve a company's ranking on Google, it also helps to convert prospects into paying clients by helping them understand why they need to use a particular product or service.

I chose this business because I had noticed - from my last job, where I worked closely with marketers - that a lot of marketing content was haphazardly done and more of a copy-paste job from similar campaigns and did not focus on what the client needs. I also believe that I offer a better quality service than more expensive providers in the US, UK and Australia who charge more than three times what I do.

I typically earn $15 - 30 per day, with my major costs being electric power and connectivity costs, which work out to approximately $3 per day.

My major hurdles are unreliable mains power supply and weak GSM internet signal, since I work in a rural area. I plan to use the money raised through Zidisha to first purchase a generator or solar power backup and subsequently install an outdoor antenna for my modem to improve connectivity.

My longer term plan is to purchase three more computers that will allow me to offer affordable internet to the rural community of Tigoi where I live.

Loan Proposal

The rural area I live has unstable mobile internet which I rely on for my article writing business.

I plan to purchase a couple of modems from different mobile companies to ensure I am always connected and able to serve my clients, whose orders are time sensitive.

I would like to sincerely apologize to the Zidisha community for falling back on my previously spotless repayment schedule. There is a good reason for this, though; There has been a slowdown in business over the Festive season, as most of my clients take time off work to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, making it difficult for me to pay. I would like to temporarily reduce the repayment amount to KES 250. This will help me be able to keep up my repayment schedule while business picks up in January. Thanks.

    Hi!

Just got my first loan disbursed. I have been to Kisumu town this afternoon and purchased a new modem. I now have two connections to the internet which means I will be available to my clients almost all the time :) Thanks Zidisha!

I'll be heading into Kisumu town tomorrow to purchase a GSM modem and hopefully an extension antenna for it. Thanks to Zidisha.
