About Me
My name is Ephantus and am a resident of Nairobi city. I was born in the central part of Kenya where we did small scale farming. Even though we had a farm we grew up in scarcity .We relocated to the capital city after my parents found work.
My parents being hard workers did their best to see me and my three siblings through high school but sadly I was unable to secure a place at any local university even after attaining a mean grade of B-. After graduating from high school I did menial jobs in construction sites, washing carpets & cars and selling bottled water.
Two years after completion of high school my parents took me to a local college where I did a diploma and upon completion found employment . From my savings I managed to start a business in selling sand to supplement the high cost of living in the capital city.
To change my life I need to invest more in my business and quit my day job.
During my spare time I like playing chess with friends, visiting the local park, collecting rare Kenyan coins and watching movies.
My Business
My business involves selling sand where the major customers are individuals building residential houses. My other customers include schools which use the sand in their preschool sand boxes. Petrol stations also purchase sand for their safety sand buckets as required by regulation. The major impediment when it comes to the sand business is the transport expense as sand quarries are not located near my yard.
Loan Proposal
If lenders support my business I will purchase ten tons of sand at a cost of $10 per ton. I usually sell sand at a cost of $50-$70 depending with the customer. There is a construction boom in Kenya and there is a huge demand of construction aggregate in all major towns. My yard is located on a busy road where it is visible to potential customers and hence I do not need to spend on advertising. The advantage of selling sand is that it is not a perishable product and there is no risk when it comes to theft when compared to other businesses.
