About Me

I am a teacher in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. I'm an evangelical Christian, and I'm a married father of three children; one boy, and two girls. I am also responsible for my two nieces. As I said, my homeland is Burkina Faso, and I live in Bobo-Dioulasso, in the region of Hauts Bassins, and more specifically, the town of Dô. The city of Bobo-Dioulasso is located in western Burkina Faso. I raise chickens and turkeys. I've chosen to continue this profession - breeding turkeys and chickens - so that I have better than average finances to meet my needs, and also those of my family. With the profits from this job, I can improve my family's life, pay for tuition for my children, pay for their clothes, rent, water and electricity, et cetera. Also, I can achieve my own needs at the same time, and help other people who also have unmet needs.

My Business

I raise turkeys and hens, and then I sell them. The people of my town like poultry meat very much, and the demand for poultry is very strong. The customers prefer to buy my turkeys and hens, because they weigh a lot; they are well-fed, and treated well too. The risks that the poultry raising business faces are the deaths of turkeys and hens, particularly during the winter. This business is lucrative because it gives me income and allows me to meet my needs. My monthly expenses included payroll and veterinary products. It costs me 45000 CFA per month, and 540,000 CFA per year. My revenues for the year are 1,300,000 CFA, and I have a profit of 760,000 CFA per year.

Loan Proposal

As soon as I come into possession of this second loan, I will buy guinea fowls, chickens, laying hens, and turkey chicks. I will also pay for veterinary products to care for my poultry. Thus I can meet the orders of my different customers, and also attract new customers.

My Business

Cela me coûte 45000frc CFA, par mois, soit 540000frc CFA par AN. Les revenus de mes ventes s’élèvent à 1300000frc CFA par AN.J’ai un bénéfice de 760000frc CFA par AN.

Loan Proposal

    Hello friends,
In the last few days I've sold 10 turkeys for 175,000 francs. As of today, in my farmyard are 12 turkeys, 38 guinea hens, 20 hens, 40 turkey chicks, more than 60 chicks and the numbers continue to grow. This farmyard can be estimated to contain more than 400,000 francs worth of birds. I would prefer to pay all the rest of the sum now in order to have a larger loan. Thank you for your support. May God continue to bless you.

Hello. As I expected, I sold chickens and turkeys in October and my profit was augmented by a hundred thousand francs thanks to the loan which you gave me. I bought a field of two hectares in which I will not only cultivate foodstuff but also add to my breeding. From now until the end of December, if it pleases God, I will start breeding in this field. I would love it if you would give me a loan just as you did the last time. Thank you for your care.

    Dear friends,
With this note I bring you thanks for the loan of 250,000 francs CFA which you gave me in the month of March 2013 to help me with poultry breeding.
With this sum, I bough ten turkeys for 75,000 francs and 100 chicks for 25,000 francs. And with the rest of the sum I bought food and medication for them. After six months, that is to say between Sept. and Oct., I will be able to sell them. Till next time, then I will comment on my breeding.

    Hi all,
I recently visited Mr Bazoun and his small poultry operation in Bobo-Dioulasso. He has a large backyard and that is what he uses to house his birds. While I'm not sure about the other birds he has, he told me that he holds on to his turkeys for 6 months and chicken for 4 months before selling them. You should be able to make out some of them in the photos below.

With the exception of a number of illness-induced poultry deaths, everything is going well. He has recently constructed a small enclosed room for the birds to stay in at night and looks to expand it soon. In the future he would like to have a separate piece of land for the operation. However, to justify doing so he would need to increase scale. Otherwise certain fixed costs like a night security guard and vaccinations (bought in perishable packs of 500 or 100) would eat too far into profits.
