About Me

I live in Kiptangwanyi shopping center which is approximately 45km from Nakuru town. Nakuru town is our nearest major town within this area. I am married with four children. I am a born again christian and a pastor. I live in plot number 522 at the shopping center where I carry out my business with my family. My business entails a cereals shop at the shopping center. I sell all sort of cereals that range from maize, beans, wheat and other dry grains.

My Business

My business entails a cereals shop at the shopping center. I sell all sort of cereals that range from maize, beans, wheat and other dry grains. The main challenges that this business encounters are lack of finance to expand the business, fluctuating prices of fuel which adversely affects the business and frequent droughts that result in shortages.

Loan Proposal

Dear Lenders,
I will use my loan that I will get from Zidisha organization to do the following things. First, I would like to use the loan to transport some stock of cereals that I already have to Nairobi where currently there is good market. I have been lacking the funds for transportaion funds and therefore would like to use this golden chance to transport the cereals. Secondly, with the remaining amount I will purchase more cereals from the farmers especially at this moment when they are harvesting.

    Dear lenders,

This is Roberta Zenere, I am a Kenya Country Liaison Intern at Zidisha.

I just wanted to let you know that we are still following-up with Peter, both directly or though the assistance of his Volunteer Mentor, Steve Kagwe. Yesterday, Peter sent a text SMS to us informing that he is still experiencing difficulties with his business. He is now planning to send some small repayments little by little and catch up with his arrears.

Please, let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Roberta
    Zidisha Volunteer

    Dear lenders,
This is Analin Saturria McGregor, Communications Associate at Zidisha. I lead the team following up with clients in arrears in Kenya. Please accept our apologies for the delay in providing an official update on Peter's case.
We have been following up with Peter ever since he fell into arrears back in December. We follow up with clients in arrears directly and through the contacts they provide on their loan applications. This includes the community officials who sign their letters of recommendation and so forth.
In the past 6 months, Peter's phone has been disconnected in several occasions. This made even more difficult to obtain a direct response from him about why he was not submitting loan repayments.
Peter has provided us several dates over the past few months in which he expected to begin his loan repayments. He has not been able to follow through with any of them. Traci Yoshiyama, who served with us as a Client Relationship Manager in Kenya for about a year, followed up on this case personally during her time in Kenya. She was more often than not unsuccessful in reaching Peter, even being in-country.
We have refocused our efforts with Peter to encourage him to reschedule his loan to a repayment amount he can realistically and consistently send, and logging to his borrower account to explain his situation to you directly. As of today, we have not been successful.
Our last follow up on Peter was yesterday. I made the calls myself. He did not respond the phone call, but replied a message I sent him. He explained to us that he has been planting beans and is close to harvesting them. He expects to begin his repayments with the profits from the bean sales. Based on the feedback from other borrowers with the same crop, bean harvest will begin in August.
We will continue to update you on Peter's situation in a more frequent manner as we know more.
    Thank you for your patience.

Hello, I'm a virtual volunteer here at Zidisha, letting lenders to Mr. Muriithi know that he has contacted us telling us that one of his children has been ill, and this has made it difficult for him to make payments.

Does Mr Muriithi want to reschedule the loan, deferring payment but with additional interest, so that he isn't simply not paying?

    Hi Peter,

Do you have an idea of when you be able to begin repayments?
