About Me

My name is Collins Okeyo. I am a first born in a family of 4, two gentlemen and two ladies. I lost my mum when in class 4. At that time we were staying in Kericho - Kenya where my father used to work as a tea picker. After the death of my mum, my father relocated home in Nyakach, Kisumu County - Kenya.
I went to stay with my uncle in Migori county where I did my class 8 exams and scored 463 marks out of 700.
I was enrolled in a local day secondary school in Nyakach, Thurdibuoro Secondary school. I dropped out of school because of fees in form one. for two years I was at home with my dad. Some well wishers then paid my fees so that I could continue with education. My father passed on when I was in form three. I did my KCSE and passed to join University.
I used the loan I got from the government to start a shop at home in order to help me educate my other siblings. This I did successfully. I knew that if I educated them, life would be easy for them. I was determined to do this and by the help of God, I did it.
My land is known for the snake "Omieri". Its believed that when it appears, there will be a bumpy harvest.
My son is still young, only five months old. I like traveling, listening to gospel music and making friends.

My Business

I do a business related to education. I offer services in the education line. I do home based tuition. I look for clients who want home tuition in different disciplines and allocate teachers who I work with to the clients homes.
I deal with different education systems i.e 8-4-4, British system, IGCSE, IB. Mostly the classes are in the evenings and weekends. The classes get more during holidays when the schools closes. I pay the teachers weekly and based on the hours taught. The clients pay fort nightly for the services offered. This services enable the students to get good grades in theirs exams. This is done together with counseling and guidance of the students in different lines of life. Life skill lessons are also done to ensure positive behavior change in the students.

I would like to expand the services in other towns and cities. Establish offices and also take care of my family with the profits. I also desire to buy land and establish my own school in future.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan to higher one more teacher. This will enable me get more clients to serve because I have more teachers. The nature of the business requires that if I have more teachers, I will have more clients to serve and hence more income from this.

I am currently unable to pay the scheduled amount Ksh. 459 and would like to reduce it to Ksh. 250 since the business is not doing well and I also got some family commitments. I am committed to clear my balance as soon as possible. When the situation stabilizes, I will adjust it upwards again hopefully.

I am doing well with my Education business. My business has increased steadily and I am believing God that when I complete the first loan and request for the second one, the result shall be tremendous.
I feel great that through Zidisha, I was able to employ one more teacher which is not only a plus to my income but also the teacher is also able to put food on the table through this.
I am forever grateful to Julia the Director and the Zidisha team. God bless you all.
