About Me

My name is Felistas. I am from Busia. I belong to a Bantu community known as Abaluyha that originates from the western region of Kenya. I run an egg-selling business. I sell eggs on wholesale and retail in Kisumu Town, which is the town I reside in. I intend to expand my business and invest further in the greenhouse business. In the meantime, I save half my profits from this business and spend the rest on getting more stock/ eggs to grow my business. I opted for small businesses to supplement my income. I enjoy drawing and painting in my free time. I am yet to monetize this skill and gain more income from it too.

My Business

I sell my eggs on wholesale at two hundred and ninety shillings and on retail at three hundred shillings. The profit margin is good, but there are instances when there are way too many breakages that this profit is not realized instead I recover the capital of the goods and start afresh. I have a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. I was trained on how to store eggs and to avoid any losses in my agriculture unit on my campus. I also learned how to handle post-harvest losses. I would like to practice conservation agriculture, greenhouse farming, and maybe go into large-scale farming as a whole in the future. These are all very challenging businesses that require money but also very profitable.
At the moment, I am short of money. I believe the Zidisha loan I receive will help me develop and expand my business to greater heights. `I intend to get an additional 20 crates for sale this time around and buy a few items for the greenhouse I have started building with the help of a few community members.

Loan Proposal

My name is Felistas. My family has seven members.. We are originally from Busia that is our hometown. We are Luhyas; this is a Bantu community that originates from the western region of Kenya. I run an egg selling business. I sell eggs on wholesale and retail in Kisumu Town which is the town I reside in. I intend to pay my fees for further studies with my earnings and invest further into a greenhouse and fishpond business. In the meantime, I save half my profits from this business and spend the rest on getting more stocks/ eggs for to grow my business. So since I had no source of income whatsoever due to unemployment, I opted for small businesses to gain earnings/ income. My siblings also depend on me because am the first born in the family and I need to lead by example.
The money I used to start this business is fifty thousand shillings. I get my eggs from a renowned farmer in Kisii town. Occasionally, I get my eggs from Kampala, Uganda too. The eggs are way cheaper there. I started up by purchasing two hundred crates of eggs at two hundred and forty five shillings per crate. Which would cost me about forty nine thousand shillings. I sell my eggs on wholesale at two hundred and ninety and retail at three hundred shillings. The profit margin is good, but there are instances when there are way too many breakages that this profit is not realized instead I recover the capital of the goods and start afresh. I have a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. I have been trained on how to store eggs and to avoid any losses. I also learned how handle post-harvest losses. I would like to practice conservation agriculture greenhouse farming and maybe go into large scale farming as a whole in future. They are all very challenging businesses but also very profitable.
At the moment, money is a great hindrance to some of these developments. I believe the Zidisha Loan I receive will help me develop and expand my business. `I intend to get an additional thirty crates for sale. This money is very essential in adding a little more profit into what I make now. Zidisha has come at a better time for me. As I have now created a greater clientele since I started this business early in the year. The demand for eggs has now become overwhelming and I was on the verge of not meeting these demands, thanks to Zidisha I may now not disappoint my clients since I will now have constant supply.
