About Me

I am a young entrepreneur with big dream about transforming my life and my community. I am married with one child and currently I am a teacher. I don't let challenges discourage me. Although there is shortage of water in the area I come from, I have established a farm where I grow various fruit plants including mangoes, lemons and oranges. These fruits are in great demand both locally and internationally. Some are exported. I begun the venture after completing high school using some money my father loaned me and on a piece of land belonging to my grandfather. Although I started with very few plants the plantations has expanded to over 2 acres. My initial motivation was to have a source of income and help my siblings because my childhood wasn't so pleasant. Having seen my parents struggle to raise my school fees, I had to change that. Many people in my area are poor because their main livelihood, farming, faces many challenges including inadequate rainfall and financial resources. Nonetheless, we are a hard working lot and I believe with support and guidance, my community will have a bright future. I can say farming is a hobby because I always find time after school to tend to my plantations.

My Business

As I have mentioned above, I farm for profit. My business involves selling a variety of fruits (including oranges, mangoes and lemons) to middlemen who then retail or export the commodities. I obtain the fruits from my own farm. Fruits are in great demand in my country because there are many juice companies and fruits exporters that consistently buy our fruits. In addition, people require these fruits to supplement their diet. I choose this venture because it is lucrative and I am passionate about farming. I also took this initiative to encourage my fellow young persons to embrace farming . The cost of maintaining these fruits plantations is minimal. I don't not incur transportation costs because buyers pluck the fruits directly from my farm. Only the initial costs of establishing the plantation was huge. I make a net profit of about US$2,298/- in a year. I use the profit in a number of things, including re-investment in expanding the farm, school fees for my siblings, and improving my living standard and home as well as paying for other essential needs.

Loan Proposal

Agribusiness ventures requires proper planning and timing. For my fruits to fetch good price and minimize losses, I have to care for the fruit plants including spraying to rid off pests and diseases. Paying workers at the right time and supplementing the soil properly with fertilizers are also essentials. I also desire to have a constant flow of water to my farm to reduce the cost of transporting water to cater for new seedlings. I am requesting this loan to add to what I have be able to meet these essentials. The loan will be of great help and I will surely pay it on time.
