About Me

My name is David Mukuha Tabu, born in 1989, Architectural Designer and Tiny-House Builder, and Co-Founder of Studio Leyfonte, Ltd., a social enterprise providing low-cost housing.

PREMISE

Who said tiny houses in Kenya, and the developing world in general, must look like shanties and be without finesse?

MISSION

To provide truly decent and affordable housing for blue-collar, working-class individuals and families (or for anyone else needing or preferring to spend less on housing), by using corrugated and sheet-metal panels ("mabati").

My Business

I and my business partner believe that tiny houses should be at the core of any raft of solutions for homelessness and any other low-cost lodging needs, as well.

PRODUCT

Standing at 3.5 metres tall, our demountable 3m (10ft) by 3m (10ft) tiny house
is comprised of a kitchenette, study area, bathroom, and sleeping loft.

TARGET AUDIENCES

For organisations helping to end homelessness, our design offers truly decent and affordable housing for anyone in need.

For AirBnB hosts and small-scale property developers, 9 Sq.M. (100 Sq.Ft.) of land per unit means almost any available space can have a business plan with our pod.

For anyone who has a small piece of land and/or has a backyard or compound, all in all
our tiny houses are ideal for saving a lot of money on housing costs or for generating
rental income.

CONFIGURATION

The modular pod can be connected and stacked to create AirBnB rentals, tiny-house villages, single-room occupancy (SRO) residences, hostels, motels, and entire lifestyle communities.

BUSINESS MODEL

We offer the working/construction drawings of our demountable tiny house in 3 pricing packages:

1. Basic (USD 350) - Get highly detailed architectural drawings ONLY;

2. Standard (USD 500) - Get highly detailed architectural & structural drawings ONLY;

3. Premium (USD 750) - Get highly detailed architectural, structural, electrical & plumbing drawings.

At the right price (USD 5,000 to USD 30,000), we:

1. Customise the design to client's liking;

2. Prefabricate/build it in our workshop; and

3. Ship to client as a flat-pack (ready-to-assemble) home.

(This applies even to those interested in having it as a THOW, a tiny house on wheels.)

Loan Proposal

The USD 1,587.50 (KES 158,750) loan will go into purchasing construction materials and paying labour force for the 3 rooms that make up Phase 1 of the 2-Storey Structure as follows:

USD 750 (KES 75,000) (47.24%) - Steel Tubes for Framing the 3 rooms ie.
•4 Pieces of 100 x 100 mm Mild Steel Square Hollow Section (SHS)
•5 Pieces of 50 x 50 mm Mild Steel Square Hollow Section (SHS)
•12 Pieces of 40 x 40 mm Mild Steel Square Hollow Section (SHS)
•5 Pieces of 50 x 50 mm Mild Steel Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS)

USD 500 (KES 50,000) (31.29%) - Basic Walling, Roofing and Flooring of the 3 rooms ie.
•47 Pieces of 3000 x 890 mm Corrugated Metal Sheet
