About Me

I am a husband and father of three children. I live in kahawa west a suburb within Nairobi the capital city of Kenya. I have recently started a small business dealing with rearing of kenbro chicken. The idea behind this is to boost my income in order to comfortably meet my personal expenses and maintain the upkeep of my family. My immediate short term plan is to buy my own incubator for my use and extend the service to my customers. In future, my plan is to expand my business so that I can generate enough funds to put up a private home in the land I have already acquired and also raise some houses for rental. At the moment I use my business income to meet education cost for my children, house rent and other day to day basic needs.

My Business

Kenbro chicken is a cross-breed of the exotic and the indigenous (or the so called Kienyeji) breeds of chicken. This is actually a breed of chicken that can do well in all conditions: that combines the qualities of fast growth, good utilization of feed, resistance to diseases and production of both meat and eggs. Therefore, Kenbro is a dual-purpose chicken that is being reared by an increasing number of farmers. I keep my female and male birds together so that they produce fertilized eggs that I later take to the incubator for hatchery. There after I sell 1-day-old chicks to my customers at a lower price than the one charged by the hatchery companies and make a good profit. It is important to note the high increase in demand for eggs which are more nutritious as they are fertilized as compared to layers eggs.Kenbro eggs also fetch higher prices as compared to those of layers chicken. The biggest challenge I have at the moment is that most of my customers are requesting me to rear the birds and sell to them when they are one month old as they try to avoid the stress of tendering for the chicks from day one.

Loan Proposal

I intend to put up an additional chicks shed to get room for keeping more chicks up to one month period. By so doing, I will be able to attract customers who are increasingly in demand of chicks one month old as opposed to one day old.
This is an advantage to me as there is that element of value addition which boosts my profit further. The new loan will also help me buy chicks feed for this one month before the first sale. With the new loan, I also intend to expand my business by taking eggs for hatchery on weekly basis instead of monthly.
