Am a 26 years old business minded entrepreneur from a family of six. I was born in the Southern part of Kenya (Coastal region) where I schooled and lived for the better part of my youth. This is one of the poorest regions in Kenya and I watched as communities struggled to survive with the bare minimum. Even though I now reside in the outskirts of the capital, the poverty trends are not very different here. Being a Sunday school teacher in my local parish, I have witnessed first hand the struggles families go through by being with the children who share their stories with me every time we meet.
I have a vision, not just for myself but for the larger community. I strongly believe if I can take a family at a time out of food shortage then I have served the community as a whole. My main aim of joining Zidisha is to acquire funding to improve on the aquaponics models I have so I may make enough money to repay the loans and slowly install the same in several homesteads with the returns I get.
I am an accountant by profession working in a small organization and being an accountant has given me the required business skills to manage resources in order to achieve desired returns.
Combining the aquaponics and my business management skills will go a long way in commercializing the self sustainable aquaponics project and raising the standards of living in the community I live in.
The Aquaponics system is a self-sustainable farming method, with very low recurrent expenses, producing 100% organic fruits and vegetables. The demand for fresh and organic vegetables in the city is very high and cannot even be satisfied.
I have a small scale aquaponic system that's doing well as a test and I now want to put it up on a much larger scale in order to make it more commercially viable.
The risk of non payment is largely reduced by the fact that I have been doing the business on a smaller scale as a learning experience.
I would like to ultimately run the project in different households, to lift their standards of living while reducing the marketing risk by marketing as a unit.
I would like to expand the capacity of my aquaponics system from my current 15% to over 90%. To achieve this I need a water pump to raise the water from the ground level to the higher point in order to implement the vertical garden principle. This pump, together with the automatic switch (that will go a long way in saving energy) costs USD 50. The PVCs and piping will cost about USD 25-35.
Dear Lenders, kindly assist me in raising part of the total cost and I will raise the remaining so as to achieve the objective.
