About Me

I am a third born in a family of six. I lost my parents when I was thirteen years old. The death of both parents was something that my family least expected will ever happen. Each of us was forced to bear with tough times following their death. My two eldest sisters got married before they finished their education. The assistance they provided was hardly enough to sustain my education and the education of my younger siblings. My younger brother was six at the time of the death of my parents and so we had a responsibility as his eldest brothers and sisters of taking care of him and bringing him up. Alongside attending school, we engaged in doing small businesses that we knew would help us raise money for meal and payments of any money required in school. I knew that I was the eldest of my siblings and so I had to show direction and act responsibly. I initiated a small business where I sold roasted groundnuts. I began by purchasing and roasting two kilogram of groundnuts. At the start of the business, I never sold the whole two kilogram but this changed with time. I had to increase the amount of the groundnuts to five kilograms. My younger siblings helped me with the packaging and selling. I had to channel the profits accrued from the business towards purchasing paraffin (a household product used in lighting and cooking), which I also sold.
I am currently a student in a college alongside running some financial generating ventures. I rear rabbit and chicken. My eldest sisters are peasant and they don’t have any sort of employment and so they don’t have the capability to fully give us support. My youngest brother is currently in his final year of high school while the other one finished his high school last year waiting to join the university. My younger sister got married. She never finished her high school education. I used my financial ventures to support each of them to my level best. I deferred my course by one year and am currently engaged in running my small businesses which am pretty sure will have grown by the time I go back to school. Every challenge I have faced in the life realm and in business realm has helped me realize the possibility of achieving anything that we ever dreamt of. In addition to studies and doing business, am a member of a community project in korogocho slums in Nairobi Kenya. The project is aimed at training youths to engage in viable economic activities. By doing this, the project aims at reducing the number of youths who ventures in crime activities rampant in the Ghettos. Bidii Yetu Youth Group has achieved part of its goal as many youths have benefited from free training.
I am happy for the far I am today and I know this all is because of my determination and the results of all that I have inputted in my life. I hope to see brighter days ahead and help change more lives and rejuvenate hopes of all those who lost hope.

My Business

My business entails rearing of rabbit. The demand for the rabbit meat has increased in the recent years and the trend is expected to remain the same in the coming years. Demand for the urine excretes of rabbit, believed to be used in medicinal purposes has increased in the recent years. I ventured in the business as a result of increase in demand for rabbit products. Though I initiated the business with only five rabbits, the number of rabbits has grown to fifteen and I have sold more than fifty rabbits since then. I talked to a friend who gave me a space where I erected a structure to house the rabbit. I get rabbit food from remains of sukuma wiki and other green vegetables sold by vegetable vendors. I also feed the rabbits with the rabbit feeds which I feel are important in supplementing their diets.
I supply the rabbit’s meat to hotels and individuals who give me orders. I rely on the information passed by friends and family members to get my market. I have received more orders in the recent months and there is future hope in the increase in the demand. The price of each rabbit depends on the type of the market and the size of the rabbit. One rabbit sold to a hotel will fetch a higher price compared to a rabbit of the same size sold to an individual. Similarly, a rabbit that is bigger fetches a higher price than a big rabbit. I use the faeces excretes from the rabbit as manure for planting green vegetables in a small plot close to the rabbit house. I have made the rabbit structure in such a way that the urine goes through a sieve before reaching the bottles for storage. I sale the urine to a middleman who have direct access to the urine market. My brothers assist me with feeding them and supplying the meat to customers when am tending to other stuffs. The structure is three yards by four yards but I need to expand it to accommodate the increasing number of rabbits. I also have the plan of buying more rabbits to add to what I already have.
The business like any other business has had a number of challenges. Inadequacy of funds to provide constant supply of food for the rabbits has been a problem. Competition from those who engage in rearing of the rabbits is also a problem. There has been an instance where I have lost some rabbits through death though this has been a rare occurrence. I need more funds to expand the structure and ensure constant supply of the foodstuffs for the rabbit. I have created conducive conditions to ensure that the rabbits are reared in optimal environmental conditions. To curb competition, I have stocked different breeds of rabbits and this gives ensures that customers get what they want at any time.
Each rabbit costs me twelve dollars. I need five more rabbits, two male and three female, to add to the ones I already have. I need to purchase wood and materials for building a structure that will house the rabbits. The cost of extension of the structure will be 30 dollars. I will still need to buy and stock the rabbit feeds. This will cost me ten dollars. The other cash left I will keep it for emergency situation that may arise. I may need to buy medicine or nutritional supplements for the rabbits. Owing to the first rate at which rabbits breeds and grows, monthly income ranges from 200-250 dollars. Each rabbit is sold at 25 dollars. In a month, I may sale up to ten rabbits. I believe that the business has a potential of growing into something big that will

Loan Proposal

I would like to purchase more rabbits to add to those i have at the moment. Extending the hatch that houses the rabbits is also a top priority. i believe that the rabbit rearing is supported by a number of factors. An ample space is one of the factors. I need twelve dollars to buy each rabbit. I need five more rabbits, two male and three female, to add to the ones I already have. I need to purchase wood and materials for building a structure that will house the rabbits. The cost of extension of the structure will be 30 dollars. I will still need to buy and stock the rabbit feeds that will last for a month and a half. This will cost me twenty dollars. i will keep any money left to catter for emergency expenses that may arise. I may need to buy medicine or nutritional supplements for the rabbits. i believe that the monthly income for the rabbits will range from 200-250 dollars owing to the first rate at which the rabbits breed and grow. i will sale each rabbit for 25 dollars. In a month, I may sale up to ten rabbits.
it is worth noting that this is a potential business venture that gives fast returns and this will be accelerated by the increase in the number of rabbits that breeds. The business since its initiation has never resulted to any loss. Furthermore, rabbit business is an area that has not been fully exploited and so there is room for the market and it faces limited competition. This type of business if well managed, is a guaranteed success.
