About Me

My name is Penina Wambui. I live around Githurai Progressive with my family. I am a married woman with only one child. My husband also lives with us. I completed my high school studies in 2004 but did not go futher with my studies because of fees problem. It is then that I decided to venture into business around my area. I am a farmer and have a piece of land. I also rear goats and cows. So far this business has taken me a notch higher me and my husband are at position to meet some of the need for our family. I work in my farm in the morning and in the evening attend to my goats and cows.

My Business

My business involves keeping goats and cows. I have decided to expand the goat business since it has good returns as I can testify from the experience I have had. I started keeping goats in 2010 after attending a training that had been organized around the community on goats. I have 6 mature goats right now. These goats of which 4 are female produce milk which I supply in Githurai market. Goat milk is scarce and so I have ready market for my milk. Sometime I also sell to local butcheries the goats for meat which I am planning to expand. My biggest plan is to become a dependable supplier of meat and milk in Nairobi town. I am sure it will take time but through hard work I can achieve this.
If I get the first loan I will be able to buy 3 goats of a different breed. With the three I will cross breed with the 4 female that I have and the result will be a high quality goat that will be capable to give me 10litres of milk per day.
This is how I will use the money I get from the project; I plan to a diploma in animal husbandry. By this I will gain skill to take my project to a higher level. Also I be at position to be hired by other farmers who keep goats so that I can advice them as a way to give back to the community. Second I will be able to help my husband support his business. And if all goes well I start my own industry for processing meat and milk. That’s my dream. I request the management of Zidisha to approve my form so that I can get the loan. Thanks

    Hi,

I’m Naroa Zurutuza, Zidisha’s Client Relationship Manager in Kenya.

Today I had the opportunity to meet Penina at her house in Githurai, a neighbor in the northeast of Nairobi. She was pleased to chat with me while her lovely children (1 and 10 years old) where playing around.

Thanks to the Zidisha loan, she has bought a goat whose milk she sells making significant profit. She gets around 3 liters milk from the goat and its price ranges between 1.5-2$/liter in the market. With this money, she is able to maintain her family and pay back the loan. She is expecting to finish paying back the loan within two-three months so that she can get another one to purchase more goats and increase incomes.

It was good to see that Zidisha didn’t only help Penina with her business but is also linking and getting in touch youth enterpreneurs in the area.

    Hallo,
I take this opportunity to deeply show my appreciation to Elinor, Guenter, Nicole, Pentatoniscale, Sarasofia and Valis for the kindness you have shown. I now have the loan with me and i am on my first step to expand my business. I will spend the day at a farmers residence today who i had promised to buy the three goats from and by evening i am sure i will go back home with them. I thank you all and promise that i will observe the Zidisha agreement concerning the repayment schedule.
    Regards
