My name is Colleta Kanyanga, born and raised in Kenya, in a small village in Kitale called Kware, We are a family of about 18 and counting..,, Childhood was not easy since our father left home while I was about 5 years old, My mother had a bigger task of raising seven of us bearing in mind she was just a farmer. So we were introduced to farming at a tender age both livestock , we used to farm maize, beans, sunflowers, cabbages, kales, onions and tomatoes. This really pushed me to work hard so that I could change the narratives of our situation, with the support of my mother we grew to be happy and having gratitude, I always say mom is a hero in my life. The knowledge she installed in us keeps us going. As I grew up I always had that dream of having a large scale plantation so that I could create employment opportunities in our society at large.
As said earlier I was introduce to farming at an early age and it was the only source of income and daily livelihood for our family. So I decided to keep pushing to large scale farming and that's what I do as a business with my mother's knowledge. So I plant various serials and vegetables not to forget maize since Ugali is the stable meal in our country.
Apart from farming I also have shops for selling clothes, I would call them boutique. So my goal is to open up more shops so that I can also create more employment opportunities for families in our region. I believe through Zidisha I will be able to achieve my dream and goal of employing thousand's of people.
First I'll buy farm inputs since it's rainy season here in Kenya., for instance serials like maize, beans, peas, Irish potatoes and kales not to forget cabbages.
Then the remaining amount I'll increase my clothing stock to about 80%., since during this cold weather there's demand for heavy clothing's and that's what am going for next.
Also planning to open up MPESA payment method due to COVID, so cashless method is well recommend to curb the spread.
So my major approach during this Covid economic strike was diversification., Am not just rigid to this two business, sometimes I do hawking and sale fast foods., also post online my clothing and make deliveries for platforms like jij.co.ke, facebook, instagram etc.,
Apart from this I also do other hustles like online writings and a bit web designs., I did this when we were anticipating a total lockdown as a country due to Covid spread. Also do online coaching for students who have the enthusiasm towards web designs.
