About Me

I am Jared Opiyo, I am a Kenyan citizen aged 35 years. I live in Nakuru town in Nakuru County of Kenya. I am a catholic by religion, I am married to one wife and have a son and a daughter. I posses good social, interractive and communication skills. I am also business oriented and posses excellent enterpreneural skills. I operate a computer service business in Nakuru town dealing with the sale of desktop computers, laptop computers, printers, photocopiers, scanners and other electronics. I live in a rented house for which I pay Ksh 5,000 every month as rent. My house is located approximately 3 kilometers from Nakuru town, a distance which I cover everyday by my personal motorbike. I completed my university education three years ago and have since then concentrated on my business investments. I am looking forward to advancing in my line of interest which is business investments and hope to advance even more with the opportunities which have been presented to me through Zidisha.

My Business

I operate a computer service business in Nakuru town dealing with the sale of desktop computers, laptop computers, printers, photocopiers, scanners and other electronics. My business is located in Nakuru town at Shoppers Paradise, 2nd floor room 211 and operates under the name of Jerry’s Computers. I started this business three years ago with acapital of Ksh 50,000 which I had saved from the earnings I received from my previous employment. I used the money to set up the office and pay for the legal requirements as well as the license fees. I then bought some few computers and got the business started. Currently the shop has a stock of about Ksh 150,000 and I am looking forward to expanding it more and more. The money that I will receive will be used for buying stationery which will majorly be photocopying papers since their demand in the area have also icnreased considerably and I anticipate that I will receive a good profit out of the investment.

Loan Proposal

First I a so very grateful to zidisha microfinance for this wonderful opportunity that has enabled many business people across the world to access financial resources. I invested the previous loan very well and I realized good profit since I was able to introduce new products and services which were highly on demand. I will use this money to improve the new services and products that I introduced in my business since they seem to fetch more profits as compared to the original products and services which I used to offer. I am so grateful to Zidisha.

I am a VM. I phoned Jared today at 5.14pm and he is unreachable. Most of his listed persons I have called either deny knowing him or their own identity. His endorser, Fredrick, denies ever meeting him while Jared's inviter denies his own zidisha's registered name, Willy Maingi. His case is very confusing. I suggest further investigation into this profile.

      Mr. Shehi,

Thank you for checking this out. What I don't understand is how a person like Mr. Opiyo managed to get a loan listed on Zidisha. What kind of checks and balances are in place? Seems like not too many, since a possible fraudster managed to list and fund a loan.

One more instance in which lenders lose faith in Zidisha.

      Thanks,
      Cris

          Mr. Shehi,

Will you be following up on this issue? I don't want to cause you even more work, but I would surely appreciate your being involved. You are there in Kenya and not only know whom to speak to in your country, but also whom to contact and discuss issues within Zidisha.

Please be assured that I am truly appreciative of your help with this and other delinquent borrowers.

          Cris

    Mr. Opiyo,

What is your reason for not communicating with your lenders and not paying a single cent of your loan?

Keep in mind that Zidisha is a microlending organization, not a charity. We expect to be repaid.

    Jared,

How are you doing? How's your business coming along? It's been a few weeks since your first repayment was due and you have neither rescheduled nor given us any updates. Could you drop us a quick note on how business is?

    Thanks,
    Cris

Somewhat strange repayment pattern. Completed a loan "100% on time", yet missed your first two payments.
Did not reschedule, but you did send a note after being late, which is more than most people do.

Disbursed Sep 11, 1 month grace period until Oct 11.
1st sch pymt Oct 15 missed
2nd sch pymt Nov 15 missed
3rd-17th pymts made on Dec 25, telling me the capital is not needed.
I no longer know what "on-time" means.

Hallow Zidisha Team, I am really sorry for the inconvenience that I may have caused you due to my failure to repay my loan as I had proposed. I traveled out of my country for an official trip and came back this week. I had entrusted my friend with my business and I came back and found it doing well. However, I have to reorganize myself in relation to the loan repayment. I therefore request that you may extend my grace period until 15th of December 2013. Thank you very much and once again I apologize for any inconveniences which I may have caused you. Thank you.
