About Me

My name is Judy Ruri Waweru, am a resident I went Kiraga primary school in Thika district, in 1981 and compeleted in 1988. I then joined Gathanga high school, also in Thika district. That was in 1989 and compeleted in 1993 when i successfully compeleted my o level. After that i joined Sunlawi institute college where i did a tours and travel course. I did well in that institute and i was employed in African Safari Club in Mombasa, Kenya, where i worked for two years.I was then employed at Mamba Village in Nyali, Mombasa but that was a casual job so i did not work there for long. After that i decided to start my own business so as to meet my family needs. Am a single mother of two children living with my children here in mtwapa.I live in a rented house as well giving me a good reason for my struggling. I started a cusion shop within the mtwapa's busiest center. This business has been of great help to me and the whole family at large. Its a good and profitable business, because in a good month i get an income of ksh 20,000 after my expenses. With this amount of money i use ksh 2,000 to pay my house rent, ksh 3,000 i pay rent at the shop, ksh 5,000 is spent on family food and other house hold needs, i use ksh 2,000 to pay for my children school fees. i save ksh 8,000 per month, with this savings i can use to pay my zidisha loan.

My Business

I have been in this business for the last four years now, and i sell sofaset covers, children clothes, shoes and african jewelries. This business is quite unique as there are a few people doing this kind of business. Its a good business and its not very costly compared to most business, i say this because out of the commodities i sell the most expensive are the sofaset covers but the other goods are easily available at reasonable prices.Apart from being a good business i experience risks like, theft, sometimes you order a parcel and then fails to reach you. So sometimes you they refund you but at other times you ran to a loss. Its a profitable business, in a month i earn a minimum of ksh 20,000. I have a friend in Nairobi who usually supplies me with the sofaset covers. With my income i buy food for my family, pay rents, both at the shop and also at my residential house, and manage to save. My monthly expenditures are ksh 12,000 and save ksh 8,000 per month. My main aim is to improve my business and meet my family's needs effectively.
