About Me

My name is Anne Eboi. I used to work but lost my job and jobs have become difficult to find these days. After applying many times with no success I have realized I can make it in farming because I have a passion for it and I also grew up on a farm. I also have an interest in fish business. My sister lives on the shores of Lake Victoria and usually sends me a few but I have been thinking of getting more for business.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. There was a time I was teaching in a school but earning very little. I could not make ends meet. I had to think outside the box and this made me buy bedsheets from street vendors and re-sell them to colleagues. I would also do home tuition for children. For me, life is a struggle, but I have a positive mind. Despite the struggles, I have never slept hungry or defaulted on my rent. After struggling with jobs which hardly pay well, I have decided entrepreneurship is what will get me financial stability. However, due to lack of finances, my ideas are not tested.

My Business

At the moment I get traditional green vegetables from people's farms and the market and sell directly to clients. I also have an eighth of an acre in Kajiado County where I grow onions which I sell.In Kenya, food is ever on demand. I spend roughly 20,000 ksh to cultivate the crop and if the market is good, I get profits of the same amount after three months. I use the profits for upkeep which includes basic needs and school. My future plans include mixed farming where I will keep dairy cows, poultry and do vegetable farming. So I need loans to slowly begin developing the farm.
Recently, I learned of a new business of selling fish to a selected clientele. The fish is delivered from the market and I prepare it to sell in the evening. I have tried it but realize I need more capital. It pays better and will definitely boost my farming activities. At the moment, I buy a kilo of fish at ksh 400. I usually buy 3 kilos at 1200ksh. Transport costs, oil for frying, charcoal, and packaging cost me a further 500ksh. I usually make 3,000ksh thus leaving me with a profit of 1300ksh. I only do the fish business on Saturday for lack of funds to do it daily. This is because I sell to my trusted friends, neighbors and relatives who may take up to two weeks to pay me. My challenge right now is to find space in Kitengela town and more capital to enable me do it on a daily basis. In addition, if I get capital, I may get it directly from the lake at a cheaper cost because I have a sister who resides there. I wish to diversify because my onion farming is not labor intensive given that mine is really small scale(I have a lot of free time and fish is only sold in the evenings), and the returns are also insufficient.

Loan Proposal

Since I started selling fish, I have seen an increase in revenue. I need a boost in capital to increase my stock because people have started requesting that I deliver to their homes and offices. Thus I will need extra money to pay the hired help. If given the $400, I'm sure I will make a profit of not less than $100 in total.

The last loan went towards boosting my fish business. I managed a profit of $30 which went towards assisting me in my daily life. I wish to continue investing because I now need to bring Omena, the tiny fish from the lakeside to Nairobi. The loan of $60 will enable me to buy two bags and estimated profits are $20 for both every time I deliver. This will supplement my current fish business and onion planting on my small plot. Please help me on this journey.

    My lenders,
I thank you so much for supporting me. I experienced a little setback in my last business where the fish I ordered for, half ended up here spoiled. I sold that half and barely made back my capital. I decided to start distributing to friends and family during the day in offices and homes. That's how I recovered and made a little more profit. I seek your help one more time to help me continue with my hired help to seek out more markets and sell more fish. If I receive the $400, I am confident I will make profit of $100 and more. Thank you very much.

I still wish to pursue my fish business. I managed to increase the days of the sales to three. I will retain the same three days but I seek to increase the volumes of sales. This is because my product usually gets bought early enough where I close shop and forced to go home. The last loan helped me to have a good Christmas, unlike previous years. My journey to prosperity has started. Please help me achieve my dreams.

Wow, what a wonderful year it has been, thanks to your generous funding, such that I have managed to fully repay my loan ahead of time. I managed to sell an average of 15-20 fish a day(3 days a week due to unavoidable circumstances). Each day gave me a profit of $ 10-$15 so in total, I accumulated $150. For once I had a Merry Christmas! Definitely, I will expand in the new year. Thank you and God bless you.

Thank you very much, my lenders. I have gone through many years of financial struggles but this time, I have faith I will make it. Your support means a lot to me. I will indeed use the loan to grow my fish business and consequently wade into full scale farming as more and more funds become available. God bless you immensely.

Thank you for the last loan. The profits I generated were used to start a very small fish business which I now need to expand. The sky definitely is the limit for me. Thank you and God bless you.

First, let me deeply appreciate you for lending me money. So far I have purchased two farming implements and put a small section of my farm with onions. They are doing very well, and if all goes well, I expect a good harvest. I can't quite report on earnings at the moment, except for the 20sh per implement each time I hire it out. I will definitely keep you posted about my progress as it happens. Thank you.

Greetings Mr. Craig Newmark. I am most grateful to you for your generosity. My heart and soul are sold to food production and this first loan will mark my starting point as I intend to purchase a better hoe. Eventually, I intend to run a successful model farm. Once again thank you.
