About Me

I grew up in Matsguru in former Vihiga district.I was the fourth born in a family of 12 children. My father was working in a dairy firm known as Kenya cooperative creameries while my mother was a farmer.I attended Matsguru primary school and made it to join secondary school, joining Gisamabyi Mixed secondary school where as life grew tough and my parents were finding it hardly easy to pay fees for each of us i managed to only go upto Form 2 when i dropped out due to lack of fees. After that i went into farming and even got married at the age of 22 and went into baking a local delicacy known as Mandazi, which i bake to date.I moved with my husband to Bungoma county and we resided in Sikata area to date where i do my business. I now have six children;14,12,8,6,4 and 2 years old.

My Business

I usually buy a bale of baking flour and baking powder then i make the dough overnight and start baking "mandazi" at around 4 .30 am so that by around 5.30 am to 6 am i am serving ready clients such as primary school students and workers who mostly cannot afford a full meal or tea.I sell the buns until around 9 am when the day has fully broken.I also do the same and sell the buns i make during the day in the evening from 4pm until 8 pm when people from various work centres stop by to buy and eat, some take the buns as their supper as they cannot afford full meals. At 4 pm i usually have primary students and secondary students returning home, they are the majority of my clients.
One packet of baking flour costs 130kshs ( 1$ ) and 1/2 kg of sugar (50 US cts) and salt. I mix these with warm water and make a dough which i knead and let to treat. After a while i cut the mixture and deep fry in boiling cooking fat to make the buns.
Most of my clients are lower income people who cannot afford full meals and who rely on mandazi as their staple meal.
I hope to be able to fully open a hotel as i run this business from a porch. The business has helped me and my husband pay fees for our children and to cater for our needs fully.

Loan Proposal

I will buy a bale of baking flour that has 24 packets and costs 37$, and a bale of baking powder that costs 30$ and another bale of salt worth 32$ and this will enable me to make some good money, profits from this will enable me to make around 2000 to 2500 more buns, increasing my income by about 40%. I will be able to pay for the new county fee for food retailers and also be able to plan on fully having a residence and making a hotel business.

Hello Mary. Are you able to start making payments again yet? If not, please get in touch with Zidisha and ask them to reschedule your loan.

Can you get in touch with Zidisha to reduce your payments to a more manageable level? That is better than letting yourself get behind with your payments, which can make it harder to get a future loan.
    God bless you,
    Wendy

I would like to invest more of my money into the business,so paying back the 500 is taking a huge chunk out of the reinvestment money, but i am sure under three or four weeks after this i will be able to pay more
