About Me

My names Paul Ndritu, I was raised by a single parent and we were very poor when I was growing up. My mother was a casual labourer had difficulties raising our family.
During my secondary education, I had dreams of becoming a successful person in the society but we didn’t have money to send me to college. But I did have an opportunity. I was helping my mother while I was in school on our small plot of two acres. And after I was done with school, I started helping her full time- that’s how I became a farmer.
In 2010, I went to College to study Agriculture education and extension.
After graduation there was still no jobs forthcoming so I decided to engage in farming fulltime. I have been in farming for the last 5 years and the results are good since I have been able to educate my siblings and help my mother.

My Business

I do tomatoes farming in 1 acre of our land, Subukia climate favours production of this cash crop. Our land borders Subukia river and we make good use of the river particularly on dry spells however sometimes curfews are enforced and we are prevented by local authorities from using the water. I do plant in two seasons a year. During harvest I take the produce to the market and at times customers come for them to my farm. I also sell in retail in the market during market days i.e Wednesdays and Saturdays. My tomatoes are fresh cultivated hence high preference by customers. When selling in whole sale, I sell at USD 30 per crate and on retail I sell at USD 0.8 per kg. the income in a month is approximately USD 1000 for the two seasons. I have a dream of expanding my farming business and taking it to high level.

Loan Proposal

With my second loan, I want to concentrate on fodder crop farming. This place weather is becoming drastic and with the recent announcement of dryspells to come soon, there is a possibility of shortage of fodder crops, I have a dairy cow and will also do it for sale. This is an area not explored and I am convinced that deemand for this will be high particulary in the months preceeding January 2017, many people around are at the moment relying on hay from as far as Berea Farm 30 km away hence increasing its cost per output. Harvesting is now being done and with few rains currently, I foresee good returns.
