About Me

Am hezron wambua mutiso.i grewup at katangi location machakos county.what made me like farming is that since childhood we were staying in a certain centre where they used to keep chicken,cows,rabbits.they also planted kales,spinach,onions,cabbage,oranges,mangos and many more.thats how i came to love farming.i went to katangi township primary school from nussery to class eight.after that i joined katangi high school for my secondary education.after that i stayed home for a year practising some farming before i joined skytec aviation college where i studied diploma in tourism management.i practised chicken keeping and planting some tomatoes to get small amount of money and also to keep myself busy.then i started looking for a job.i went to mombasa and started selling second hand clothes.when i tarmaced for months all in vain.i went to mombasa because is a tourism region to try my luck.after a year of selling second hand clothes i came to nairobi to look for another job.but it took me a year looking for the job.finally when i got a job at a hotel where i used to work as a waiter and finally i became a barmàn i started saving the little i had because i had set my mind that ill have to do farming because i had passion in it.i bought 100 chicks from one of my friend ben makau of signature birds kaani machakos county.the land is very fertile for crop growing that is done by the people in our area.they love planting maize,beans, and cowpease.i have one kid who wishes to be a well known farmer because any time am in the shamba he is there with me asking me many questions about what am doing.what i love most when am not busy at the shamba i like browsing alot to learn more about farming..especially about chiken and crops like tomatoes,onions,kales,and watermellon.

My Business

my business now has around 150 chicken because during festive season i sold many of the chicken.my hens produce good quality eggs because of the good quality of food i give my chicken.i also have two freshian cows which give me around 16 litres a day.i take the milk to a dairy everyday.i have 100 pawpaw trees which give me good number of pawpaws during havest time.i sell them to my customers around our home and also at the market.i also have 94 mango tress of which 50 of them give me mangos twice a year.i sell them also to nearby towns.like chicken eggs are needed in hotels for they are proteins.i have more customers for the eggs than i produce so i just balance them such that none of my customer that will miss eggs.i chose this business because i had passion in it and also i had a little knowledge about it especially the poutry keeping and the cow looking.i had also seen that all these products are ever used and needed by human beings each and everyday throughout their lifetime.i also wanted to change the minds of people in our area anf let them know that farming is a business that will never fail you if you are keen on what you are doing.also i loved it because my grandfather used to do it also when i was a little boy.he used to tell us more about farming and how to look after cattle.many people dont keep chicken to get eggss for sell but they do it because its like is a culture for every home to have chicken.pawpaws and mangos they are in high demand because are seasonal..so people are looking for them everytime especially when its very hot.milk is always on demand each and everyday..in hotels and homes for tea preparation.also for most of the kids are given milk.so its always on high demand.the chicken i have now they take almost a 90kg sack in a month of which have mixed some maize germ,omenà.i also give them some nappier grass for the york to be more yellow and also the shell to be hard enough to avoid unnesessery brekages.i use some pestcides for the mangos,pawpaws,tomatoes which are not very costly..i ussually spray my cows twice a week because of the ticks to prevent the cause of ECF.i use a motorbike to take the milk to the dairy.the cost of fuel everyday sometimes becomes too high.i deworm them after every three months keenly.the profit that i get i do try to feed my family.but mostly i use the profit for development of the home especially the fencing for security purpose.i try also to expand the farm in terms of increasing chicken cows and the fruits also.i ussually pay the school fees for my boy.i also save a little for emergency.the profit is less than the needs.more needs to be done to the farm so that more profit is seen and also meet my customer needs.

As ussual ill buy food for my chicks and am happy this organisation has helped me alot.chickmash is needed here.thankx and God bless u.my chicks are one week old now.by buying the chickmash i will havae an advantage of the chicks having food with all nutrients needed for a health chick.ill have a profit because i sell chicks so by feeding them the right food they will grow faster
