About Me

I am a 26 year old Kenyan with a passion for the farming industry as my nation’s economic pillar is farming. I was born and raised in Muranga,Central province;a place where alcoholism has been branded a disaster.
Muranga is a cold region which can get extremely harsh on livestock and plants. It is this province that hosts the highest mountain in Kenya with heights upto 5,199 metres. The mountain has snow on its peak and a wonderful site for mountaineering.
The county however is affected by two major problems. Alcoholism has affected the child birth rate and led to many deaths in our county of birth. Jigger infestation is another menace and has been declared a national calamity. I was affected by both problems directly and I want to make a difference to the people of my county. I got jiggers at a tender age which worsened with the fact that I did not wear shoes upto the age of fifteen. My mother was a house wife but she passed away in 1998 leaving me with the other calamity; my father.
My father was a drunkard who always left early in the morning and returned home late at night. He always woke me up and made me sing for him until he sleeps. I remember one time I thought he had slept and wanted to leave the room he told me ‘please be audible’.
I got enrolled to alliance boys high school since I passed my examinations and my father had to change his behavior all be it after several visits from village elders. Since stepping out that time I was treated in school for seven months and I wore shoes for the first time in my life.
The government has banned the consumption of local illicit brew which kills over 50 people annually in that province. Women even demonstrated in the streets to years ago claiming men do not perform their duties any more all they think is drinking and they are spreading the problem to the younger boys. Muranga is the land where drinking alcohol is both a crime and an economic activity but it’s still my home. East or west home is best.

My Business

MY BUSINESS
I have a passion for the agriculture industry and I feel starting with poultry will give me a foundation for my business. I have studied the poultry business and visited various farms where they have excelled. I believe this business is good because it needs a small time to start repaying my capital. I am intending to use the loan to buy food for the chicks I will buy. The average amount of money am expecting per month for a start is 80 dollars and my monthly cost is around 35 dollars.
I will create a website to market my business within the county and also in the neighboring Nairobi city. By doing so I will make my business credible and also get a platform to interact with my customers and get their feedback.
The money I get from freelancing per week is 5 dollars and I will use that amount to repay my loan .by the time my business picks up I will use the money to re invest in the business. I have a project plan of five years whereby I will help farmers create employment and indulge in economic activity which will reduce the number of people drinking alcohol hopelessly. this will encourage farmers from our region to do the same and by doing so we create food security for the region. I will also start a campaign to eradicate jiggers in the community by forming socio economic groups to discuss ideas and empower youth through zidisha lending community.
Chicken is a delicacy that is popular among the urban population of muranga and with the report that red meat is harmful to human beings in the long run, demand for white meat has never been this big. Most hotels in kenya serve chicken with French fries commonly known as chips. I am targeting the small scale hotels I will run this poultry farm for a year and gradually grow towards my goals and I believe with the right approach and funding I will create job opportunity for many people in the coming few years. Agriculture will protect our environment because people have turned to cutting trees for charcoal causing desertificationand global warming affecting the mount Kenya which loses the snow on its peak year in year out.

Loan Proposal

My project needs funding for a start . I have set up structures already and all that is remaining is purchasing the chicks and their food. A day old chick costs ksh 50 and iam intending to start with 60 chicks needing a total of ksh 3000. The ministry of veterinary services provides sevirces for farmers at the early stages of their farming projects so I have taken advantage of this to reduce medicine costs for my chicken.
The 60 chicks will need a 100kg sack of food every 2 weeks if well regulated. A sack retails at ksh 2000 and in 6 weeks I will need a total of ksh 6000 or less. Marketing my products will not be a problem because demand is readily available and therefore I will need continuity to supply my customers on regular basis. The food will however be given to me on credit so I may pay after I get my first income.
I am planning on buying 50 chicks every two weeks so that when I supply the first batch the second group is maturing and I get money to purchase the third batch. Doing this will ensure my profits is re invested to the business.
I will repay my loan using my income from freelancing. I write online and iam able to raise 600 ksh per week to repay my loan. I am targeting a big farm in the long run creating employment for many people. White meat is on demand and for its nutritional value I will have created an avenue for a healthy nation.
In this loan therefore I will neeed
Ksh.3000 for one day old chicks
Ksh 2000 for poultry meal.
In total I will need an equivalent of 50 dollars.
I will top up my loan with my savings so that I manage to raise my business
Weekly repayment of 600 kshevery Friday.
