My name is Esther Otwalo. I reside in Nakuru Town at a place called Kivumbini. I am a business woman in Nakuru Town. I am the first born in a family of six children. I went up to secondary school level. After high school, my parents could not afford to take me to college. I therefore decided to start a business of selling fruits and vegetables. I got my first loan from a micro - finance called Uwezo kwa wote. With this money, I paid license for my business, rented a kiosk and bought my first produce for sell. The business has been doing well and With this business, I have been able to help my family members by paying school fees for my younger siblings.
My business is a green grocery; I do and operate the business in Nakuru Town. It’s a fast moving and profitable business. I sell all types of vegetables and fruits. I normally buy my products in wholesale from Nakuru Municipal market and sometimes get them direct from farmers at cheaper prices. The business is profitable as I can get an income of ksh 25,000 per month after paying my expenses. The risk I am facing in this business is dry seasons. During dry seasons, there is shortage of these commodities which makes prices to go up to a level where the customers are unwilling to buy .With the income I get from this business, I use ksh,3,500 for house rent, ksh 5,500 for food, ksh 1,000 for electricity, 600 for water bill and 2500 for bus fare. I am able to save 11,900 per month which I can use to pay Zidisha loan
I want to first thank the Zidisha organization for giving me an opportunity to apply for a loan. I wish to inform lenders that I would like to acquire a bigger premise with this money. My current Kiosk is small. I will also use this money to buy a small refrigerator that will help me keep my produce fresh during hot seasons. Apart from this, Once I acquire a bigger promise, I would also like to start selling other produce such as potatoes and bananas. This will help me have a variety of stock to sell and therefore be able to sell more and make more profit.
