About Me

Elizabeth Onywera is a widow, mother of two kids and aged 38 years old. i am a secretary by profession and a very good transcriber i can take shorthand speeds of upto 120 words a minute and equally a very good typist with 50 words per minute on a manual typewriter. I am an ENTREPRENUER BY BIRTH. I started my own business after completing college this is because i had sent out several job applications and was not successful. I saw a need to venture into the food industry and that is how i began my business. I come from a county called Kisumu in Kenya, East Africa. It is a cosmopolitan town next to the shores of lake victoria and the weather is quite hot. My daughter is an introvert, very humble and a bookworm wants to be a Zooligist when she grows up and is set to sit her final primary school exams this year. Im sure she will do me proud and join the best national school. My son is an extrovert, a complete opposite of his sister, he is in the seventh grade and is quite cheeky keeps on changing his mind at the moment he talks of wanting to be a great diver, as a parent i always support him and guide him and wish him the best in whatever he ultimately chooses to do.. My most unique pastime is reading my Bible and my favourite chapter is Psalms 31, and i love playing scrabble.

My Business

I run a food restaurant and i specialise in local cuisines and i have also recently with aid from Zidisha loan purchased a tent for hire. I am based in the heart of the jua kali sector and my food is in high demand because of its highly nutritional value and affordability. I I ventured into this business because i saw there was a need for healthy traditional food and the market was readily available. Due to changing economic times i am now selling a plate of food for ksh. 120, per day i can sell up to 120 plates. This has been an A plus for my business because my food is pocket friendly and quite affordable and nourishing. That amounts to gross income of Ksh. 14400 per day after deducting my expenses for purchase of products ksh. 5000 and wages to my staff kshs. 1200 per day ( each staff is paid 400 per day im left with a income of Ksh. 8200 per day. Out of this i put aside Ksh.3500 for personal use, medical bills, entertainment, and save a part of it. That means on a typical day my net income will translate to Ksh. 4700. I also rent out my tent on weekends at Ksh.6000/-. I use my profits for personal investment, i have an education policy for my to children which i pay monthly Kshs,4000. I have also reinvested in my business by adding more cutlery, chairs and tables. Though continued Zidisha support i have upgraded my standard of living from a one bedroomed flat to a two bedroomed flat. My next goal is to be able to register myself and my children to a medical insurance scheme.

Loan Proposal

Basically what i want for my eating house and urgently is a refrigerator to store cold drinks and also be able to put my drinks on display. The current market price for a westpoint single door refrigerator is $400. I intend to place the refrigerator to the entrance of my eating room. This way customers will be able to serve themselves. It will be an advantage to me because it will reduce work load of me having to serve them with the drinks and opening my deep freezer all the time. Also it will benefit me because now i will be able to keep soft drinks and milk separetely from food. Presently i store everything in the deep freezer. My business is expected to grow in profits of upto Kshs. 500 a day. thiis is largely to the fact that my town is a hot town and sale of cold soft drinks is a blooming business. plus i have a extra of having milk products like yoghurt this is bound to increase my sales tremendously. But all this depends on me getting aglass door refrigerator where i can display my products.

My dear lender and Zidisha team greetings.

There is an error with my account. I created a support ticket over a month ago and even contacted my mentor but up to date I have not received a response.

I adjusted my instalment amount over a month ago and my account still reflects the original instalment amount.

I have continued receiving emails from Zidisha team.

Urgently check on to my account as I also get a statement from my network provided tomorrow n forward it to you.

    Regards Elizabeth

I wish to reduce my loan installments payments because of lack of business. The political situation in my country has affected my business drastically. In fact beginning tomorow 9th October the opposition has called for 3 days strike weekly. I am forced to close my business especially since im located in the opposition stronghold of Kisumu. The demonstrations have been chaotic and looters are taking advantage so its better to play safe. This has resulted in loss of income for me since the presidential results were annulled and a repeat election ordered. I pray that calm will be restored soonest and that this is just but a temporary setback

    Greetings to you SKWAW,

Thank you very much for this opportunity and for investing in my proposal. I am very grateful for your support. I intend to purchase a mixing juice machine with a capacity of 18ltrs and two compartments. I will make fresh cold mango and avocado juice which i intend to sell in my restaurant together with food.

It will realy help me in that from the earnings i make i will get an extra Kshs.3500/-. My dream has been to register to a good medical insurance scheme since i wasnt able to afford the one my late husband had enrolled me and my kids. If all goes well i will be able to now comfortable enroll to a medical insurance, and my standards of living will go a notch higher and most of all my revenues from the restaurant will increase, i will be able to pay back my loan comfortablly as well as repay the installments for the juice machine. I will also be able to give back to society by employing two more staff as the workload will have increased.

Thank you once again SKWAW and to the entire Zidisha lenders i say Keep up with the good work and continue believing and supporting us.

    Be blessed.

    Regards
    Elizabeth

I purchased four sets of hotpots with my previous loan and increased them from the previous three sets to seven sets. Previously i was selling 90 plates a day but now my turnover has increased to 120 plates per day. My profits have increased by approximately 50% because now i have more storage for food. The country has been experiencing some political hitches but i thank God that at currently stability and peace are prevailing.

I have opened a school fee account for my first born daughter Kimberly who is set to sit her final primary exams this year and i know she will excell and get admitted to a good national secondary school.

I have also increased my standard of living by going a two bedroomed flat up from the previous one bedroom i was. All this is thank to the funds that Zidisha has been assisting me.

In future im thinking of investing in disposable take away containers as my business grows an advice tip i received from one of my zidisha lenders.

Thank you very much my dearest lenders, God bless you and i look forward to your continued support.

Jambo to you Elizabeth and the children. This is James, one of the lenders. I hope your restaurant business is doing good. I know business can slow down during election times. I have not been to Kisumu but have been to many other places in my 3 trips to Kenya. I have many kids, families, and friends in Kenya, some live in the Kisumu area. Do you do any catering, like to businesses, weddings, parties, church functions, and such like that? I know of a former restaurant in Kisumu that was doing just that. They were getting many orders for delivered meals from businesses around town. They delivered the food in disposable food containers, had disposable plates, forks, spoons, etc, so they only had to make just 1 trip to the business, no second trip to collect dishes, food containers, and such. They had a business card too and hand delivered them to businesses around town explaining their service. They also gave out free samples of the food to the business. They were getting a lot of orders for food delivery. Another thing, do you have lunches to go? Some people don't have time to sit and eat. Disposable containers can be a big help in certain situations. No dishes to wash either. You might consider giving it a try on a small scale to see how it does. You seem to me to have the ambition to try anything. You have nice looking children, a beautiful daughter and a handsome son. Some day he will finally decide what he wants to do. In the meantime tell the kids that James said to always do their best, in school, life, or anything else. Well take care, and "keep on keeping on". You'll be in my prayers. Hope to hear from you. James

    My dear lenders

    Greetings to you

Thank you once again for this opportunity. I intend to purchase another set of hotpots for my restaurant. My dearest lenders,

From my previous loan i have now acquired 3 sets of hotpots and this has increased my revenue and thus increased my standard of living. I have also been able to open a savings account for my daughter's secondary education since she will be sitting her final year exams this year. Hopefully with more of your funding i will be able to save more.

Greetings to my lenders, i trust you are all well. As indicated in my loan proposal i intend to purchase atleast two sets of hotpots to add to my current ones. it will help me in that presently im selling 70 plates per day and with another set, i hope to sell 100 plates of local delicacies daily. This will increase my revenue and therefore i will be able to inject more savings into my daughters school fee account as she is set to sit her final primary exams this year and i trust she will be going to a really good high school next year. Thank you very much for you continued support, and you are all in my prayers. God bless.

Greeting my dear lenders and to the entire Zidisha fraternity, I take this opportunity to thank you again for your continued support. I cleared paying my last instalment on 22/2/17, which is ten days later than i was meant to clear, though it has not yet reflected on my account but im sure it will reflect soon. Though as the saying goes better late than never. Its been quite a long month for me as i buriedthe grandmother to my late husband on 14/2/2017, and on 18/2/2017 my grandpa, that is my dad's father was also laid to rest. It has been tough two burials of two loved ones in a month but it is well. Once again thank you for your continued support, i wish you well, and i look forward to doing more business with you. God bless
