About Me

My name is Stanley Wahinya. I was born and raised in Mukinye village, Ngenda Location, Gatundu South constituency in Kiambu County (formerly Kiambu district). I have fond memories of my childhood both sad and joyful ones. Growing up in the village where we didn't have piped water- we'd draw water from the river which we enjoyed especially during the hot seasons since we used to swim. I started my elementary school in late 80s and completed in the mid 90s. Proceeded to secondary school and finished in 2001. My childhood dream was to become a pilot. The dream of becoming a pilot came from watching planes ascend after taking off from JKIA. I would watch them from top of a tall Mubariti/mukima(Grevillea robusta), I would climb it several times a day especially during the school holidays I would opt to delay taking breakfast or lunch or even attending to other chores assigned to me by my parents to watch those planes ascend. It was one of the most amazing childhood experiences. It was cut short when the tree was felled for timber during my final primary school year. I was sad but since it was the year I was initiated into manhood which meant no more climbing trees I reluctantly accepted and moved on. I joined university in the 1st decade of the 21st century where I pursued a B.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry.
My hobby is reading, mentoring young boys, making new friends and farming.

My Business

The demand for cereals is always high. Whether it’s the dry or rainy season, people need to eat and cereals provide a cheap and nutritious option. I saw a need to be fulfilled and I opened a household items and cereals business in March 2017. My shop is in Nairobi County, Dagoreti South Constituency, Ngando location, along Mama Wahu road off Ngong road about 700m from Ngong racecourse stage. The name of my outlet is Kwetu Smart Store. It's in a densely populated area where most of residents are low income earners. The residents who are my customers come from different ethnic background thus I enjoy stocking cereals from their ancestry areas. I opened this business to fill the gap of bringing the cereals close to the people where they can get them at ease and at affordable prices. I sell cereals e.g. dry beans, dry maize, rice, green grams etc and household items-maize flour, wheat flour, porridge flour, cooking oil, sugar, soaps, detergents, toiletries, chicken feed etc. The business generates income which I use to pay rent for the premise and my house, salaries for my two employees and school fees for my daughter. The remaining amount I plough back into business.
Looking forward to assisting each other in growing our businesses, improving our lives and inviting more members to Zidisha community.

Loan Proposal

I'll use the loan disbursement of Kes.28,211 as follows:
Withdrawal transaction fee from an Mpesa agent of Kes.187 and remain with Kes.26,614 which I utilize to purchase the cereals below:
- 100kg Biryani rice @Kes.78 totaling to Kes.7800-$74;
-50kg Basmati rice @Kes.72 totaling to Kes.3600-$34;
-50kg Thailand rice @Kes.86 totaling to Kes.4300-$41;
-25kg Indian rice @Kes.84 totaling to Kes.2100-$20;
-45kg pigeon peas @Kes.56 totaling to Kes.2520-$21;
-70kg green grams @Kes.90 totaling to Kes.6300-$59
The total cost of the stock is Kes. 26620 and I will add Kes.6 to make the whole purchase outlined above.
The addition of the above cereals will enable me to have a variety of rice which will give my customers a wide choice and increase in sales.
Also due to the wide variety of cereals it means that more customers will visit my shop and buy other household items and goods.
The average profit margin of the above cereals is 17% and the selling rate is 7 days thus I will be restocking them every week and use the profit to pay the loan installment of Kes.2100.
This will boost my business and help in selling other goods that generates income for paying rent, salary for my employees, school fees and other expenses.
