I am a Kenyan lady born in 1987 in Kericho county. The first born in the family of 9. I went to primary school in cheptenye primary in the year 1993 to 2001. After which I joined high school in the year 2002 to 2006.
Life was not as smooth as I thought it would be after after high school and that is when I thought of something to do in order to make both ends meet. Due to the fact that in our culture, the first born is the second from the parents in terms of taking care of the family.
Therefore I started buying maize from farmers in small quantities during the harvest time and sell them back during dry season/planting season when the price was a bit higher to enable me get a small profit to support my siblings hence lighten the burden from parents.
After realizing how profitable the farm produce are, I personally ventured into farming which am doing up to date.
The area where we live is unique such that you can't differentiate dry season from rainy season because it's ever green. and this has really help us farmers.
Because of what i have personally discovered in the farming, I'd like to encourage my children to venture into farming when they grow up ( they are still very young to decide for themselves)
In my free time, I like reading motivational books ( the grass will grow by Grace Ogot) and visiting farmers.
Since I ventured into farming, I usually provide farm product to my family and the community at large.
In Kenya our stable food is "uguli"(unbaked bread). This make my product useful and in a very high demand to every body not even my community alone.
At first, I didn't know I'd go this far with the farming business until I realize that it makes me self reliable, active and responsible.
As per now, I thank God for He has really blessed the works of my hand. A bag of dry maize goes for 1800 kshs and my 2acre piece of land can produce up to 40 bags making it 72000kshs.
After subtracting the total produce cost (63000kshs) the remaining 9000kshs helps me in reinvesting into business and saving some for my future use which may even enable me to clear my loan in time.
i want to increase the size of my farm so that i can produce more maize of which at the end i would use $80 also i want to stock the maize before i harvest the ones in the farm$40.would also like to expand my store to accommodate more of my stock this will help my customer enjoy my services through out the year also this wlil help my familyto pay their school fees.iwould like to increase profit by doubling it
