About Me

My name is is Mwagandi Ponda Shethi. am a resident of mtwapa and a businessman in mtwapa as well. Am a family man, living here with my family. Born and raised in Malindi, gede area. I went to Msabaha primary school in Malindi. that was in 1984 to 1992. After that i stayed at home after failing to get school fees. I had to go to search for jobs. I came to Mombasa in 1997 , i did small street jobs before being employed in Umoja rubber in 2000. I worked there for three years before i ventured in business. At Umoja rubber life is tough, there are chemicals which affects human health. I almost lost my life due to the deadly chemicals, thanks to the doctor who gave me an additional attention while attending me at the coast general hospital. After i got better i then got an employment at Picana milly Fruits. i worked for four years. the work here was better, and i also got the chance of meeting many people especially the fruits suppliers. These guys are very experienced businessmen, they really inspired me me and challenged me to start my own business. My first business was selling cashew nuts, i used to sell this produce at factory, (picana milly fruits), this was after i left the job. Although this was a good paying business, it was seasonal, so the season was over i had to look for an alternate business so as to meet my family needs. This is when i ventured into charcoal and firewood business. this a good business, i get an income of ksh 30,000 per month, which i use to take care of my family and also expand my business.

My Business

Am a charcoal and firewood dealer, operating this business in mtwapa. I started this business in order to meet my family needs. In my home area we have people doing this business so get the dealers and since they are my home area dealers they normally sell the products at reasonable prices.I sell my products at both wholesale and retail prices. My customers are mainly the regular consumers and also retailers whom i sell to them at wholesale prices, so they can get a profit. In my business i don't have competition mainly because, am the only dealer who go to the processors. so the other retailers depend on me to bring the products. This business is profitable, because, i get my products in large quantity and supply them to other retailers. Risks in this business is like high costs in transporting the goods, and sometimes when it rains the charcoal cant be processed because this process depend only in sunlight. I admit that this is a profitable business because i get an income of ksh 30,000 per month after all expences. with this i pay my house rent of ksh 2,000, 5,000 goes to my children school fees, and ksh 8,000 is used to pay my assistant who is of very good help to me. so i save ksh 15,000 per month.
