Looks like another default. Been over a year with zero attempt to repay. Money I could have lent to someone else is now gone.

You know Analin, I had to laugh when I took your suggestion and followed the link to unresponsive (deadbeat) borrower eunice njoroge's Mentor. She's also an unresponsive borrower, and took a loan for the same amount within days of eunice. Other people in her mentoring list have similar track records of failure to pay on time - or at all.
    Respectfully,
    Marvin

    Dear lenders,

My name is Analin Saturria McGregor and I'm Zidisha's Country Liaison Manager. We began following up with clients in arrears in-house in late January/early February of this year, a process previously conducted by our former verification partner in Kenya. Back then, the entirety of clients in arrears in Kenya was to be followed by four people, one of those people being our Director, Julia Kurnia. As of today, I lead a team of seven Country Liaison Interns in following up with about 50 Volunteer Mentors on the ground in Kenya alone. Volunteer Mentors are now the ones directly contacting borrowers, assisting them in their payment issues and serving as intermediaries between us and borrowers. In addition to that, our Virtual Volunteer team also addresses inquiries received from borrowers and lenders in this topic and I am responsible for ensuring they are acted upon in a timely manner. This is just to illustrate the increasing allocation in human resources Zidisha destines to this effort, in hopes it helps in understanding we do not treat our loans in arrears lightly.
Sadly, not every client is as responsive or as easy to reach. We try to provide updates as substantial as possible on loans in arrears to allow a correct understanding of the borrower's situation. Gaining this understanding can sometimes take months of failed attempts to contact the borrower, as it's been the case with Eunice.
In the first months she was in arrears, when we were still able to sporadically receive a response from her, we were given a couple of expected repayment dates. We do not specify payment dates provided by borrowers to avoid creating false expectations on lenders, and possibly alienating the borrower by putting them in the spotlight in the event something unavoidable comes up and the borrower cannot meet his or her expected repayment date . This is also in accordance to our policy of not guaranteeing repayment of loans.
On Eunice's case, yes, we have continued following up with her and now after we have launched automatic email and SMS notifications to all our borrowers before and after their loans are past due, she is hearing from us even if a person doesn't contact her directly. In an effort to obtain a better understanding of her situation, I have contacted her Volunteer Mentor today and put her in contact with Alfred, the person who helped Eunice post her loan application. Our hope is that the two of them can work together in contacting Eunice, helping her figure out a repayment schedule she can stick to, and providing you a direct update on what the past few months have been like. One of our Country Liaison Interns is also responsible for following up with Miriam and will keep you posted on this matter.
If you have any other questions about this specific case, you may contact Eunice's Volunteer Mentor using the link above, or email us at [email protected].

Thank you again for your support!

This was yet another loan posted by "alfred" that has become a bust. Makes me wonder if he is part of a post - and - run scheme.

For bad loans I suggest you request help by writing to Zidisha staff.

@ keagan we're together on that.

Suggest you join the Member Forum (link above) to discuss this and many other issues. Some Zidisha staff choose to ignore the bad loans & borrowers, but the fact is there are many of them. We should do what we can to prevent Z. from becoming no more than a charity (my opinion only.)

Dear lenders, my name is Bayle and I am a Country Liason Intern for Kenya. I spoke with Ms. Njoroge earlier today. She said business has been bad, but she plans on making a loan payment this month. We wish you and your business the best Ms. Njoroge!

Hi Eunice, how are you doing? I hope you and your children are well. I have an adopted child too, the one in my photo. She has finished her schooling. All the best to you.
