About Me

Am joseph Baya Mbigo, am a resident and a business man in mtwapa. am 34 years old and a family man of a wife and five children, Four are girls and ine boy, all are in school here in mtwapa. i live with my family here in mtwapa. Born and raised in Chengoni, Chonyi in Kilifi district. I went to Chengoni primary school. in 1984 when i started my primary school. and completed in 1995. After that i did not get the chance of going to a secondary school due to my family poverty situation. I started the search for a job at that early age. My first assignment was at Tembo disco near Nyali Nakumart. I worked there for one year, it was not a good paying job, so i had to look for another better job. I was emploed at a wood works workshop here in mtwapa as a helper. i was ok with that since i wanted to learn carpentry. i did for a duration of four years. after that i started my own work shop because i had acquired enough experience and knowledge in the wood work section. I did that for two years while saving as much as possible and there after i started a video cafe. with the two combined businesses I've found myself in a good business atmosphere. These combined businesses are real a great deal to me and really give me good money. i get a monthly income of ksh 40,000 after all my expenses. with this i use ksh 15,000 for my daily family expenditures and save ksh25,000 per month. The main objective of starting this business is to help me fight poverty in my family because i come from a very poor family.

My Business

I have a workshop, andv a video cafe, both are here in mtwapa. in my workshop, i do and provide the following, I design all kinds of furniture such as beds, sofa sets, all types of tables, doors, windows, all sorts of things dealing with wood work. Its an interesting kind of work and i like my work so much. I get my raw materials directly from dealers who do the supply's.And in my video cafe, i show all types of movies, english and african. People in mtwapa like watching movies so much especially the new engilsh movies.I get my movies from Mombasa, and sometimes i get african movies from a neighboring country Tanzania. Despite being a profitable it also has risks, like high price in the raw materials like timber, which sometimes affects the profit. And with the video section it also gives me a challenge like high costs in travelling, for exmaple when you go to Tanzania for new african movies, the bus fairs are too high that they reduce the profits. I can say that its a good business because i save a montly income of ksh 25,000 per month. with this i can effectively repay my zidisha loan.
