my name is slyvia achieng ,I was born in Siaya county . I went to Ngiya girls secondary school and proceeded Aquinas hair dressing school in siaya town where I studied hair dressing . I am a single mum ,and the 2nd born in our family,my mother is retired primary school teacher and my late dad was a primary school teacher too.
After the death of my father in 2011 after long illness that drained the family resources,we were left with no money,my mother had took loans from commercial banks and colleagues and was heavily burdened. Though i was in my final year in college my siblings had to drop out of secondary school for lack of fees. My mum almost went into depression. I knew I had to support her . I looked for a job in saloon ,the earnings were meager and could not even save, but at least i could support my family with the little i got. I managed to join a merry go round and when my time come I had $150 in savings. I used the money to buy equipment and rent a small room and that is how I started my business.
I have one kid ,she is turning 1 next month .During my free time i watch movies, play tennis and read novels.
I am a trained hairdresser by profession and run a saloon in siaya town , my services include hair dressing, manicure and pedicure.
The services are in demand because of high concentration of middle income earners and working class who would always prefer to have their hair well kept. and nails too.
I have always had interest in the beauty industry and that guided me in choosing these business.
I spend $100 on rent ,water and electricity each month . my revenues per month are $280.
I use my revenues to pay school fees for my siblings who i took back to school so as they can complete their studies. I also save for the purpose of business expansion .
I recently opened another salon in densely populated area ,and I expect it to start working soon,I have so far furnished it and bought some few equipments like the drier, please help me with the loan so that I can buy mirrors and saloon equipments so that it can start working. I need additional $400 to completely equip it and make it ready for business. I expect my income to double once the new saloon is operational.Thank you in advance, and receive lots greetings from here.
