About Me

My names is Chege Waweru and above fifty year old. I live at Tangi-tano trading center in a village called Gachuma. I was born in Kiambu District at Gatondu village in a being the first born in our family. At those day people were not exposed to education but for me I manage to join one of the school till class three (3) in year 1943 though education was not value, later after my education I was employed to various farm as a laborer and after I had collected some amount of money I decided to have a family where by in year 1961 I married my wife by the name Ruth Wanjiru in a weeding ceremony in a traditional way, after marriage we were blessed with our first born after three years by the name Margret Njeri and other ten though thre have passed away. Still being at I have worked at various places and company such as Kadutura coffee factory as a farm labourer where I worked from three year and after working for many years I decided to migrate to Game village in Mutukanio farm were I buy a piece of land, later I move to Tangi-tano were I also bought another a piece of land at Gachuma village, from that time I have been living at that place till now where by I have been carrying my activities of farming together with my entire family I also learn a business of selling farm produce, where I sell in our nearby trading center which is near Tee on your way to Kiptanganyi trading center, the town is developing at a high late because it is a town which produce high farm produce and it is the biggest town of all in this area covering all type of product/business,I am also an active member of Gachuma Self Help Group were we have been supporting each other since last year, since that time and I am a devoted Christian of I.E.D church of Kenya and participate actively in our nearby by church at Tangi-tano

My Business

My business is mixed farming
My business includes mixed farming,i.e planting of potatoes beans and maize,my business entail renting of shambas at Nyarianda which is well known at our place for production of this product because of favorable climate. I decided to start the business of mixed farming after realize there is a ready market for this product especially potatoes and vegetable because the place is fertile and recieve rainfall is through out the year. The businesses capture 90 percent of the market share, also the business is expected to continuous to grow due to the ready market of the product especially for potatoes because many people from far town such as from Nairobi come to buy potatoes at this area and the mean of transport is available and the climate is favorable They is a lot of demand of the product such as green maize and fresh vegetable, also so many people here rely on this variety for livelihood because they buy at low price direct from our farm.
Most of the farmer in Tangi Tano relies with one season crop thus making few of us to benefit from our business. The business will be profitable because climate is fovourable to us enabling us to produce much farm produce even during dry season. The risk facing the business is poor road during the rainy season which hinders the transportation of the farm products and lack of money to transport our produce to the market. The goal of the business will be get profit and to satisfy the customer needs, the business fall under agriculture industry which has been growing very fast for past few years and it is expecting to have a bright future in term of modern farming. My vision about my business is expand from small farming to large scale farming whereby most of the farmers have been in large scale farming i.e maize thus giving motivation to practice the type of farming. My typical monthly cost is khs 700000, sale revenue is around ksh 30000 and profit is above 25000 but I am planning to earning more from the business.
